Brunel is currently searching for an Safety Officer & Occupational Hygiene Technician for direct hire with our client located in Carlin, Nevada.
The Technician will assist with the implementation and maintenance of an effective Health, Safety and Environmental Management System required by the company to achieve and maintain required industry best practices and ISO45001 and ISO14001 guidelines and requirements. Support to operations should ensure that the organization complies with health, safety and environmental regulations while mitigating risks in the workplace.
Duties:* Conduct regular field safety inspections, audits and risk assessments.
* Identify and mitigate workplace hazards, ensuring compliance with MSHA, OSHA and company safety standards.* Participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective action development.
* Deliver safety meetings, toolbox talks and assist with training programs.* Attend and contribute to regular operations meetings, such as weekly safety meetings and production meetings.
* Monitor and enforce the proper use of PPE and safe work practices.* Collaborate with operations, maintenance and training teams to drive continuous improvement in safety performance.
* Assist in emergency response preparedness and drills when needed.* Maintain accurate safety documentation and generate reports, which shall include all environmental parameters / indicators to the Global HSE Manager.
* Provide on-site inductions, ensuring all employees and contractors are compliant and competent for the required tasks/roles.* Maintain and manage critical registers, including but not limited to inspection schedules, hazard boards, calibrated equipment, lifting and slinging, etc.
* Adhere to the company Business Code of Ethics and rules of confidentiality.* Provide HSE mentoring to operational personnel through presentations, communications and knowledge sharing from incidents.
* Review and realign company and site procedures/safe work practices as necessary.* Highlight areas where training/certification is required to meet legislative requirements, approved Codes of Practice, or industry standards.
* Contractor management, including auditing, vetting records and checking risk assessments and training.Incident Reporting and Management:
* Assist and provide back-up for workplace injury reporting and return to work plans including gradual return to work and modified duties.* Verify the incident log monthly and ensure the closure of all incidents following a robust investigative process.
* Assist the operations team in conducting Root Cause Analysis and follow-up to ensure that corrective actions are implemented.* Compile and distribute lessons learned, near misses and safety bulletins.
* Ensure that all non-conformances are closed out timeously.Legal & Regulatory:
* Working knowledge of federal Occupational Safety and Health Act, regulations and directives related to state enforcement activities.* Maintain updated electronic copies of the various Acts and Regulations.
* Liaise with the local Department of Labor, EHP's, MSHA, etc.* Ensure compliance with all company policies, standards, procedures and rules.
* Ensure that occupational hygiene surveys take place and medical surveillance as per local legislation and monitor results to ensure that the Control Programs remain effective.* Evaluate and recommend controls for health hazards in the workplace through inspections, surveys, research and analysis involving scientific disciplines.
REQUIREMENTS:
* Minimum 1 year experience in occupational/industrial hygiene and safety and health. * Experience preferred in a lab environment in industrial /construction/ mining /exploration.
* Degree preferred in related discipline.* Radiation safety preferred.
* Proficient in MS Office (Power apps experience advantageous)* Strong knowledge of MSHA and OSHA legislation.
* Ability to read and interpret technical, legal and scientific documents, journals, reports, regulations and statutes.* Respiratory protection.
* Knowledge of hazardous chemicals, hazardous respirable dusts.* Emergency preparedness and response planning experience.
* Detail orientated and ability to work very well under pressure.* Ability to earn and maintain respect by demonstrating credibility and integrity.
* Ability to influence people at all levels.* Ability to make and implement difficult decisions and communicate the reasons for them
* Self-motivated and works well unsupervised.* Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
* Broad knowledge of lab operations is preferred.* Diploma or degree in relevant tertiary qualification.
* Industry Hygienist I qualification.* OHSA-10 and OSHA-30 course developed by OSHA.
* Incident investigation using the ICAM Method.* Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment certificate.
* Training in ISO system requirements and related technical disciplines.* Working knowledge of fall protection, rescue equipment, lifting equipment, pressure vessels, fume hoods advantageous.
* Must be fit and able to fulfil the inherent requirements of the job.* Responsible for ensuring necessary vaccinations are kept updates.
* Ability and willingness to travel, and work site hours/days when required.
