Introduction

The Cost Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for projects to support budgeting, planning, bidding, and decision-making processes. This role involves analyzing technical documents, conducting quantity take-offs, and collaborating with various departments to ensure all aspects of project costs are accounted for.

What are you going to do

  • Review project drawings, specifications, and related documents to determine scope and requirements.

  • Perform quantity take-offs and prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and overheads.

  • Research and analyze historical data and current market rates to develop accurate cost projections.

  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain up-to-date pricing information.

  • Prepare cost reports, proposals, and bid documents as required.

  • Assist in the preparation of budgets, tenders, and value engineering exercises.

  • Support the project team by identifying cost-saving opportunities and potential risks.

  • Monitor actual project costs versus estimated costs and provide variance analysis.

  • Maintain and update cost databases, templates, and estimation tools.

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and company policies.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Accounting, or a related field.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in cost estimation, quantity surveying, or a similar role.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and estimation software (e.g., CostX, PlanSwift, AutoCAD, etc.).

  • Experience in [insert industry, e.g., construction, oil & gas, manufacturing, etc.].

  • Professional certifications such as Certified Cost Engineer (CCE) or equivalent.

  • Experience working on large-scale or international projects.

  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with high attention to detail.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
