Brunel Papua New Guinea are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Specialist - Shutdown Coordinator for a FIFO position in Papua New Guinea. This exciting opportunity offers a chance to work in a challenging and rewarding environment within the energy sector.

About this role

As the Senior Specialist - Shutdown Coordinator, you will be responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of shutdown activities in Papua New Guinea. You will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure that shutdown projects are completed efficiently and safely. Your role will involve developing shutdown schedules, coordinating resources, and implementing best practices to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.

Technical Shutdown Coordination

  • Proven experience in shutdown planning and execution in gold processing plants, particularly with leach tanks, CCD/CIL circuits, elution systems, detox tanks, and tailings pipelines.
  • Expertise in coordinating tank shell repairs, internal inspections, NDT, coating/lining, agitator work, and HDPE tailings line replacements.
  • Competency in developing and managing shutdown workpacks, isolation procedures, and confined space requirements.

Project & Execution Management

  • Proficient in shutdown scheduling using MS Project.
  • Strong background in multi-discipline coordination (mechanical, scaffolding, welding, coatings).
  • Experience in managing contractor teams and tracking critical-path progress during execution.

Safety & Environmental Compliance

  • Familiarity with high-risk work management in tank environments (confined space, hot work, working at heights, chemical exposure).
  • Understanding of tailings system integrity, containment, and regulatory environmental compliance.
  • Demonstrated HSE leadership during major plant shutdowns.

Leadership & Communication

  • Excellent leadership skills-liaising across Operations, Maintenance, HSE, Engineering, and Vendors.
  • Capable of leading daily shutdown coordination meetings and post-shutdown reviews.
  • Strong focus on continuous improvement and cost-effective execution.

Systems & Documentation

  • Proficiency in SAP for work order, material, and cost management.
  • Competent in reviewing technical drawings, ITPs, QA documentation, and completing shutdown close-out reports.

Is this you?

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in shutdown coordinator within the extractive sector
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in scheduling software and MS Office suite
  • Willingness to work on a FIFO basis in Papua New Guinea
