Provide legal support to the legal team as directed with respect to the Company's prospective and existing shipping business
What are you going to do
Handle initial emergency response duties for accidents/incidents occurring in AET's Brazil operations pursuant to the duty roster, including liaising with the relevant internal stakeholders, local authorities, port agents and similar third parties, the Company's insurers, and appointed local attorneys, surveyors and similar personnel to ensure protection of Company's interests.
Draft, negotiate and finalise legal contracts including long-term contracts and documentation with Brazil, US and UK (US and UK as required) customers, vendors and service providers independently and minimal support from London and Houston legal teams.
Managing and handling legal matters in projects and tenders in Brazil, US and UK regions (US and UK as required)
Advise on Brazilian laws including Brazilian regulatory and compliance matters affecting the Company's business in Brazil.
Advise and monitor developments in laws in South America relating to the Company's business.
Essential skills and knowledge
Education: Legal Qualification
Professional Certification: Admitted to the Brazilian Bar.
Experience: 10-15 years post qualification experience in law firm or corporation with significant exposure to shipping, regulatory, tax and commercial matters. Experience in UK, Brazilian and US shipping laws preferred.
Specialized knowledge: Solid negotiation and drafting skills. Ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure.
Language: Portuguese and strong command of English required.
