Brunel is seeking a Laboratory Technician I to support one of our major clients in the energy sector at their operations in Brazoria County, TX. This role is critical in ensuring that analytical testing, quality control, and compliance standards are maintained at the highest level, directly contributing to safe and efficient refinery operations.
As a Laboratory Technician, you will perform a variety of chemical and physical analyses on petroleum products and related samples. Your work will help ensure operations meet safety, environmental, and loss control objectives, while also guaranteeing the integrity and accuracy of laboratory results.
Perform and document quality assurance testing to ensure accuracy and compliance with established QA programs.
Conduct analyses aligned with refinery and loss control programs to improve safety and reduce losses.
Apply analytical standards, methods, and regulatory requirements to daily tasks.
Collaborate with engineers, operators, and maintenance teams to provide accurate results that support operational decisions.
Troubleshoot laboratory instruments and apply technical knowledge to resolve problems.
Take accountability for task completion, accuracy, and compliance.
Promote safe work practices and maintain compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
Support overtime work and rotating shifts as required.
High School Diploma or GED required (technical or chemistry-related background preferred).
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Willingness and ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule and overtime.
Valid Driver's License.
Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and ability to learn laboratory/process software (e.g., LIMS, SAP).
Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without restrictions.
Ability to:
Work safely with chemicals, including acids and bases.
Wear PPE (FR clothing, steel-toed shoes, eye and ear protection, respirator when required).
Lift up to 50 pounds safely.
Work outdoors in different weather conditions.
Handle petroleum products under high pressure and heat.
Experience in refinery, petrochemical, or oil & gas laboratories.
Familiarity with analytical chemistry techniques (gas chromatography, spectrophotometry, titration, viscosity testing).
Understanding of API and ASTM standards.
Experience with SAP, LIMS, or similar lab systems.
Proven record of working under strict HSE and regulatory protocols

Employment Type: W2 Contract through Brunel
Contract Description: Employees who receive a W-2 are paid through Brunel's payroll and have their payroll taxes (federal, state, Medicare, Social Security) withheld throughout the year. They are entitled to overtime protection, minimum wage, and employer-paid unemployment tax (SUI). Eligible for employee benefits under Brunel's structure. This position does not include PTO or Paid Holidays.
