What are you going to do

This position, based in Bibra Lake, takes you far beyond a typical desk job. You will contribute directly to maintaining Australia's readiness to respond to submarine emergencies, combining technical engineering with operational involvement. Some days you will be refining engineering drawings, registers, and compliance procedures. On others, you will be at sea, working with highly specialised equipment in real-world submarine rescue exercises. Few engineering opportunities offer this kind of variety, impact, and sense of purpose.

  • Act as the project engineer, delivering critical technical outputs
  • Provide on-site engineering support for maintenance and operations
  • Maintain engineering dashboards, registers, drawings, and procedures
  • Support bids, tenders, and stakeholder meetings with Australian engineering input
  • Engage with technical authorities to ensure compliance and governance
  • Deploy at sea in support of submarine rescue exercises, maintaining 12-hour readiness for call-outs

Essential skills and knowledge 

To succeed in this role, you will need strong technical foundations in electrical engineering combined with the adaptability to work across complex, regulated, and operational environments. We are looking for someone who thrives on variety and who is as comfortable producing detailed documentation as they are stepping onto a vessel to ensure operational readiness.

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience in maritime, subsea, or defence engineering environments
  • Strong attention to detail and confidence with engineering documentation
  • Experience with SolidWorks (drafting, modelling, and design)
  • Familiarity with PLM systems, ideally in a defence or highly governed environment
  • Ability to obtain Australian Defence Security Clearance
  • Willingness to complete an offshore medical
