Introduction

Brunel is partnering with a Tier 1 mining organisation at the forefront of innovation in autonomous haulage. We are currently seeking an experienced Mine Controller/Builder to join a high-profile, cutting-edge project within their Autonomous Truck program.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the development and deployment of next-generation autonomous systems in a live mining environment. This is a FIFO position on an 8:6 roster

What are you going to do 

Based on site and reporting to the Operations Superintendent, the Controller/Builder will form part of a specialist team delivering the RSATe Programme. In this role, you'll act as an Autonomous Fleet Controller, using Wenco FMS and Scania Autonomous technologies to execute material movements aligned with the daily Mine Plan.

You'll play a dual role:

  • Controller (FMS focus): Operating the Fleet Management System and ensuring efficient equipment dispatch.
  • Builder (Autonomous Map focus): Working alongside development teams to integrate and refine autonomous functions in the field.

Duties will include:

  • Operate and monitor the mine's fleet using Wenco FMS and other autonomy-enabling platforms.
  • Collaborate closely with system developers to align project needs with live operations.
  • Monitor machine health and coordinate with maintenance for timely servicing.
  • Ensure accurate data entry and real-time communication of production and system status.
  • Support and drive projects aimed at automation, process improvement, and operational efficiency.
  • Manage mining control-related projects and contribute to operational contingency planning.
  • Act as a central communication hub between equipment, personnel, and planning teams.
  • Identify and action productivity and efficiency improvements in line with operational goals

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Considerable experience in surface mining operations.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a mine control room environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Wenco, Komatsu Modular/Frontrunner, or Caterpillar Minestar highly desirable.
  • Strong computer literacy, particularly in spreadsheets and database systems.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within high-performance teams.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
