Introduction

Brunel is currently looking for a Machinery specialist on a long term contract to support our clients Maintenance & Reliability team. Machinery Specialist V is a senior technical role embedded on site, responsible for owning and driving the rotating machinery reliability program, with a strong emphasis on lubrication & vibration diagnostics.

What are you going to do

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the site lubrication strategy (oil selection, change/sweetening, labeling, reservoir and filter maintenance, sample points, etc.).
  • Define lubrication routes, frequency, sample/reporting procedures.
  • Monitor oil condition through sampling (e.g., wear metals, contamination, water content) and manage responses (change, rejuvenate, etc.).
  • Establish predictive and condition-based monitoring routes; set alarm/alert thresholds.
  • Collect and interpret vibration data (spectrum, phase, time waveform, orbits, etc.).
  • Identify early signs of mechanical issues (bearing wear, shaft misalignment, imbalance, looseness, etc.).
  • Lead root cause failure analysis (RCFA) when required.
  • Work with rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, turbines, fans, gearboxes, drivers, seal systems, etc.
  • Define performance criteria vs actual, identify "bad actors," recommend improvements or modifications.
  • Participate in or lead reliability improvement projects (upgrades, retrofits, supplier / OEM oversight).
  • Act as technical liaison among Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and possibly Reliability teams.
  • Support Maintenance planners / supervisors with scope of work, job plans, spare parts definition.
  • Ensure alignment of reliability goals, technical standards, and best practices across site.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field is preferred.
  • Typically 5-10+ years in rotating equipment reliability / machinery roles; strong experience in lubrication and vibration/condition monitoring. LNG / natural gas industry experience is a strong plus.
  • Certified/qualified in vibration analysis (ISO levels or equivalent) preferred.
  • Hands-on technical understanding of:
  • Pumps, compressors, turbines, motors, drivers, gearbox, seal & bearing systems
  • Lubrication regimes & oil contamination control
  • Rotordynamics fundamentals: alignment, balancing, vibration signatures
  • Strong diagnostic, analytical, and problem-solving skills; ability to interpret data and drive corrective actions.
  • Ability to work in the field as well as in cross-functional technical settings; able to communicate technical information to operators, technicians, engineering, etc.
  • Good organizational and documentation skills; familiar with CMMS systems for managing work orders, PMs, history.
  • Comfortable establishing long-term programs, ownership of machinery performance over time.
