Introduction

Brunel is partnering with a well-established Queensland engineering business to recruit a Quality Inspector for their Roma operations.

The company specialises in precision machining, custom manufacturing and equipment maintenance for heavy industries, with a strong focus on supporting the Oil & Gas sector. Their work includes the manufacture, repair and recertification of well control equipment, along with the delivery of complex, high-precision engineering components and custom-fabricated solutions.

This is a hands-on quality role responsible for inspecting components, subassemblies and finished products to ensure all manufactured and repaired items meet the required specifications, tolerances, customer requirements and internal quality standards.

The role will suit someone with a mechanical trade background, strong attention to detail and proven experience using precision measuring equipment. Relocation assistance is available for suitable candidates who are open to relocating to Roma.

What are you going to do

The primary focus of the role is the inspection of Rotary Shoulder Connections. While the specific thread elements and inspection requirements can be taught, candidates must already have a sound understanding of precision measuring equipment and be confident using tools such as vernier calipers, micrometers and depth micrometers.

You will be responsible for accurately reading measurements, applying good measurement practices, verifying products against engineering drawings and specifications, and ensuring quality requirements are met before product release.

The position will also support quality documentation, non-conformance reporting, calibration control, gauge room management and continuous improvement activities across the workshop.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct visual and dimensional inspections on components, subassemblies and finished products
  • Inspect Rotary Shoulder Connections and associated precision components
  • Use precision measuring equipment including vernier calipers, micrometers and depth micrometers
  • Verify product conformity against drawings, specifications, tolerances and customer requirements
  • Complete in-process and final inspections in line with inspection criteria and company procedures
  • Accurately record, document and report inspection outcomes
  • Identify, report and assist with investigation of non-conformances or quality issues
  • Prepare, compile and verify Certificates of Conformance and supporting quality documentation
  • Perform in-house calibration and functional checks of measuring and testing equipment
  • Maintain calibration records, certificates and gauge control requirements
  • Control, issue and maintain gauges and measuring equipment through the gauge room
  • Provide guidance and support to operators on quality control responsibilities
  • Support production and other departments in resolving quality-related matters
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company policies and procedures

Essential skills and knowledge

You will ideally bring a mechanical trade background or related technical experience, combined with strong attention to detail and a practical understanding of workshop, manufacturing or repair environments.

Most importantly, you will have experience using precision measuring equipment and be able to demonstrate strong measurement discipline. Candidates do not need prior experience inspecting Rotary Shoulder Connections, as training can be provided for the specific thread elements and inspection requirements.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Mechanical trade qualification or related technical background preferred
  • Experience in manufacturing, quality inspection or a similar environment preferred
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment is essential
  • Competence using vernier calipers, micrometers and depth micrometers
  • Ability to read measurements accurately and apply good measurement practices
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems would be highly regarded
  • Ability to conduct visual and dimensional inspections
  • Strong documentation, reporting and record-keeping skills
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with supervisors, operators and internal stakeholders
  • Strong planning, organisation and time management capability
  • Sound analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Safety-conscious approach with a strong focus on accuracy and quality
  • Relevant licences for materials handling equipment or vehicles would be advantageous
