Introduction

We are currently seeking experienced Coded Welders / Boilermakers for a role on a large-scale mining / iron ore plant.

What are you going to do

  • Perform high-quality welding on structural steel components to AS 1554.1 standards.

  • Confidently execute 3G (vertical), 4G (overhead), and 5G (pipe/positional) welds across various material thicknesses.

  • Carry out crack repairs, plate replacements, wear liner installation, and structural strengthening.

  • Handle weld preparation, beveling, gouging, and post-weld clean‑up to site engineering specs.

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, isometric diagrams, and WPS.

  • Assist with structural remediation on iron ore plant equipment - conveyors, screen decks, chute work, tanks, and support structures.

  • Collaborate with fitters, inspectors, and engineers to identify integrity issues and determine repair scopes.

  • Complete weld quality checks, visual inspections, and support NDT testing (VT, MT, UT) where required.

  • Operate welding machines, oxy/acetylene gear, grinders, and EWPs safely.

  • Strictly adhere to site safety standards, JHA/SWMS, isolation procedures, and permit systems.

  • Maintain accurate weld records, repair documentation, and daily progress reports.

Essential skills and knowledge 

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • 3-5+ years' experience in heavy industrial, mining, or processing plant welding.
  • Proven background in structural remediation, plate work, and site‑based maintenance.
  • Experience on iron ore plant assets is highly regarded - crushers, screens, conveyors, transfer stations, chutes, bins, hoppers, tanks, and structural frameworks.
  • Competent in oxy cutting, arc air gouging, MIG/Stick welding, and heavy fabrication.
  • Strong understanding of NDT requirements for weld quality verification.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding, hot, and high‑dust environments.
  • Uncompromising commitment to safety and ability to work under strict isolation and permit systems.
  • Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication (or equivalent)
  • Working at heights/confined space entry
