What are you going to do

The Staff Engineering Technician will support civil engineering design efforts within the Clients Governments & Water Utilities (G&Wu) group. This role focuses on water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including site development, drainage, grading, and utilities.

The position involves creating and modifying technical design deliverables using Autodesk Civil 3D and Bentley MicroStation, working closely with engineering and design teams.

Essential skills and knowledge 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and modify civil design deliverables, including site drainage, grading, and utility plans
  • Create plan and profile drawings, alignments, pipe networks, and proposed grading surfaces
  • Apply engineering standards, document control procedures, and Black & Veatch quality programs
  • Review design inputs and deliverables for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Perform design calculations, material quantities, and cost estimates
  • Provide technical guidance to other technicians and engineering staff as needed
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary design teams to support project development
  • Support field activities when required
  • Maintain schedules and assist with work assignments
  • Proactively apply new technologies and best practices

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced Autodesk Civil 3D experience (required)
    • Pipe and pressure networks
    • Grading surfaces
    • Plan and profile development
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Plan & profile drawings
    • Alignments
    • Pipe networks
    • Site grading
  • Minimum of 5 years of related civil engineering or design experience
