Introduction

Are you ready to be part of one of the world's most exciting energy transitions? Our client - a Tier 1 mining business at the forefront of lithium production - is seeking a skilled Engineer - Instrumentation & Control to join their world-class processing facility in Kwinana.

What are you going to do 

  • Design and enhance engineering solutions to optimise plant performance, reduce delays, and lower lifecycle costs of process control systems.
  • Develop and improve process control strategies including PID tuning and alarm rationalisation.
  • Maintain and configure PLCs, SCADA systems (AB Studio 5000, FTView SE), and field instrumentation.
  • Commission and support VSDs, DOLs, network switches, and other control assets.
  • Conduct software updates, firmware patches, documentation, and reporting as part of continuous improvement.
  • Predict and analyse maintenance needs and lead failure investigations.
  • Contribute to risk assessments and mitigation planning using enterprise frameworks.
  • Support technician development in control and instrumentation areas.

Essential skills and knowledge 

You are a technically strong, hands-on engineer who thrives in a fast-paced operational environment. You bring a collaborative mindset and the confidence to challenge and improve systems.

Essential Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering (Instrumentation/Control or related).
  • Strong background in PLC and SCADA programming - particularly Allen-Bradley systems.
  • Proven PID loop tuning experience on complex systems.
  • Experience with configuration and commissioning of field devices (VSDs, DOLs, switches).
  • Sound understanding of control system architectures, industrial protocols, and functional control philosophies.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, reporting, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • You must have current right to work in Australia to be considered for this role. Sponsorhip is not available.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in chemical or mineral processing environments.
  • Rockwell PlantPAx DCS exposure.
  • Familiarity with Powerflex drives, E300 DOLs, and Stratix switches.
  • Siemens TIA Portal, ABB/Kawasaki robotics, and industrial historians (e.g., PI, FTHistorian).
  • Programming with VBA or similar.
  • Cybersecurity, Functional Safety, and Power BI knowledge a plus.
