Introduction

We are seeking experienced, safety-focused Heavy Diesel Fitters to join Rio Tinto's Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) Maintenance team. You will perform planned, preventative, and breakdown maintenance on CAT and Komatsu mobile mining equipment. This permanent, full-time FIFO role operates from Perth, Albany, Busselton & Geraldton, offering flexible rosters, excellent benefits, and clear career progression pathways.

What are you going to do 

As part of the Mobile Maintenance Team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing scheduled maintenance, repairs and servicing of heavy mobile equipment including CAT 793F, 789C/D haul trucks, D10T/D11T dozers, 992K loaders, Komatsu 830E/930E trucks, and PC7000/PC4000 excavators
  • Fault diagnosis and troubleshooting of mechanical systems
  • Completing safety inspections, equipment pre-starts, and accurate recording of maintenance work using SAP
  • Supporting shutdown maintenance works and ensuring equipment is returned to service safely and efficiently
  • Contributing to a high-performing team environment with a focus on continuous improvement, safety, and collaboration
  • Maintaining a strong commitment to zero harm and actively identifying and mitigating risks

Essential skills and knowledge 

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Australian Recognised Trade qualification - Heavy Duty Fitter or Diesel Mechanic (Cert III or equivalent)
  • Previous experience maintaining heavy mobile equipment in mining or heavy industry (CAT & Komatsu experience high desirable)
  • Valid WA Manual C-Class Driver's Licence (HR highly desirable)
  • High Risk Work Licences - minimum Forklift (LF) and Elevated Work Platform (EWP)
  • Confined Space and Working at Heights certification
  • Experience using SAP or similar CMMS
  • A strong safety focus and commitment to working within Rio Tinto's safety systems
  • Good problem-solving skills, initiative, and a team-oriented approach
  • Full Australian working rights - Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
