Introduction
We are currently hiring a Construction Engineer for natural gas client. The Construction Engineer will assist the Construction Lead with construction management / execution planning / contracting activities during Execution Readiness Phase and a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) period ahead of FID. This is an ongoing contract opportunity and will move to site in Kitimat, BC in 2027
What are you going to do
- Influence and engage with EPC contractors and sub-contractors on all aspects of HSSE, clearly communicating and demonstrating the vision of Goal Zero.
- Support the Construction Lead to oversee delivery of construction planning studies and deliverables from the EPC contractor, ensuring performance meets project drivers and ambition.
- Drive the development and implementation of opportunities and risk mitigations in key site construction areas such as labour capacity and capability, path of construction, brownfield interfaces, productivity (including digitalization), and indirects management.
- Actively source, screen, mitigate and implement lessons learned from Phase 1 and other Canadian/LNG projects for the benefit of Phase 2 execution planning, including serving as the conduit of high-graded Phase 1 lessons learned to the EPC contractor.
- Provide construction planning and constructability input, participate in workshops, and review and assure construction deliverables.
- Ensure constructability and Design for Safe Construction aspects are integrated into design and project planning.
- Support HSE risk assessments, HAZID evaluations, HAZOPs, SIMOPs, and brownfield integration mitigation plans, providing construction input into HSE safety cases and management plans.
- Provide construction input into quality workstreams to ensure identified mitigations are effective in delivering a zero-defects outcome.
- Coordinate input from various functions to ensure project drivers and contract requirements are met in preparation for the Execute Phase.
- Develop understanding of both the Phase 2 Execution Readiness/LNTP and Execution schedules, including regulatory and permitting requirements.
- Take ownership of key construction risks and ensure mitigations are proactively managed and escalated where necessary.
- Support document reviews, EPC Contractor clarifications, technical queries, deviation requests, and MOC as required.
- Implement opportunities and risk mitigations from FEED through to detailed engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, commissioning, and start-up.
- Support early site works and contractor site visits in Kitimat as part of LNTP.
- Maintain close coordination between the Phase 2 team, Phase 1 site team, Phase 1 Asset team, and corporate teams.
- Stand in for the Phase 2 Construction Lead as required.
Essential skills and knowledgeÂ
- Proven passion and leadership in HSSE and Quality management.
- Degree in Engineering or equivalent, with at least 15 years of technical experience in oil and gas facilities and at least 10 years' experience in project engineering and construction management in execute roles, including construction engineering on at least one large modular project.
- Experience in bringing Canadian construction insights and requirements into execution planning and design activities.
- Mega-project experience in Define and Execute Phases, with LNG project experience considered a strong asset.
- Contract management experience.
- Experience with brownfield project execution.
- Lump Sum project execution experience.
- Strong communication (verbal and written), presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
- Willingness to split time between Calgary offices and travel frequently to the Kitimat site or contractor offices as required.
- Commitment to ~1.5 years for pre-FID activities in Calgary, with mobilization to Kitimat, B.C. post-FID, subject to a positive decision.
- Comfortable managing construction in a semi-brownfield environment adjacent to an operating facility, requiring strict SIMOPs planning and interface coordination.
