Introduction

We are currently hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer for our client in Burnaby, BC. This is a hybrid role, requiring 40 hours per week, with occasional travel within British Columbia and Western Canada. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in designing building system upgrades, strong project management capabilities, and a passion for integrating energy efficiency and sustainability into their work. This is a full-time permanent opportunity.

What are you going to do 

  • Lead conceptual design and detailed cost estimating for mechanical system upgrades.
  • Develop business cases and prepare comprehensive client reports.
  • Conduct schematic and detailed design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire suppression systems.
  • Prepare technical specifications, drawings, and tender documentation for procurement and construction.
  • Oversee construction administration, including field reviews and ensuring design compliance.
  • Manage all phases of project delivery, including resource planning, budgeting, scope and schedule management, and risk mitigation.
  • Supervise and mentor junior team members, providing technical and project guidance.
  • Prepare technical responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
  • Promote engineering services to current and prospective clients.
  • Potentially lead or contribute to the development of specialized service areas.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Over 10 years of hands-on experience in the detailed design of mechanical building systems.
  • Strong background in commercial and institutional projects involving HVAC, plumbing, and fire suppression.
  • Proficiency in preparing technical specifications and construction drawings.
  • Demonstrated project management experience across complex engineering projects.
  • Applied knowledge of energy efficiency, sustainability, and climate change principles in mechanical design.
  • Eligibility for Professional Engineering designation in British Columbia (an asset).
