Brunel Energy is recruiting Automation Technicians to work in Carlsbad, NM for initially 1 year contract with our major oil and gas client.

Responsible for the installation, programming, calibration, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of automation equipment used in upstream onshore oil and gas production operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and repair a wide range of automation and electrical equipment associated with upstream onshore oil and gas operations
  • Provide on-site automation support for oil and gas production facilities
  • Serve as a technical resource for:
  • Facility control systems
  • Field instrumentation, including:
  • Level
  • Pressure
  • Flow
  • Vibration
  • Other process instruments
  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with:
  • Relevant industry standards
  • Corporate Process Control standards
  • Follow:
  • PLC programming practices
  • Technical standards
  • Management of Change (MOC) procedures
  • Identify instrumentation and control system issues and recommend strategic improvements
  • Use CMMS systems (e.g., SAP) to support maintenance operations
  • Support commissioning and validation of control systems using engineering documentation

Essential skills and knowledgeย 

Required Qualifications:

  • 2year degree in Instrumentation OR Automation Technology with a GPA of 2.5 or higher (or foreign equivalent) OR Equivalent technical work experience with a strong safety record
  • 7+ years of experience as an Automation Specialist
  • 5+ years of Oil Field experience
  • Well RTU design, programming, and troubleshooting
  • Analog and discrete instrumentation
  • Serial and Ethernet communication protocols

Industry standards and guidelines:

  • API
  • NEC
  • NFPA
  • IEEE
  • ISA

Advanced knowledge of:

  • PLC programming and maintenance in:
  • Function Block
  • Ladder Logic
  • Structured Text
  • Local HMI operator interfaces
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Windows operating systems
