Introduction

Brunel is currently seeking a Senior Engineering Project Manager for Tailing Storage Facility Design (TSF) for a long-term contract position with our client. This contractor position will be located in design consultants offices in Denver, CO. This role will start with time spent in Vancouver, Canada, then on site in Denver, CO on a 4/1 rotation.

What are you going to do

Description

Provide project engineering management and professional geotechnical engineering support, analysis and review related to design of a Tailings Storage Facility (TSF), and related infrastructure. Serve as engineering project manager for design of TSF and Technical Expert (TE) during construction phase of the project.

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as point of contact with company engineering team, project controls team and consultant to manage TSF design study;
  • Coordinate with consultants so the project is completed per battery limits and stage gate process;
  • Coordinate project design review between company project team and various consultants working on the design study;
  • Review TSF design for slope stability, seepage, and deformation analysis;
  • Review TSF material balance and deposition analysis;
  • Review surface and ground water management components related to TSF;
  • Review starter dam, underdrains, tailings pipeline, jacking header, pumps, tailings thickener related design for TSF;
  • Review access road and haul road design;
  • Review cost estimate, schedule and closure plans for TSFs;
  • Review if relevant standards and guidelines were applied by consultants to meet project permit and company requirements;
  • Manage geotechnical field investigation, hydrogeology related drilling, laboratory testing,
  • Manage test work for quarry development;
  • Manage review of engineering project deliverables related to TFS with company project team;
  • Manage appropriate budgets for consulting and other services;
  • Engage the Engineer of Record and coordinate design and review of TSF among various consultants;
  • Develop scope of work and related trade-off studies in consultation with company project team as required;
  • Communicate accurate, timely and relevant project design information to company project team;
  • Discuss resource needs and potential schedule delays in timely manner;
  • Perform other duties as required.

Essential skills and knowledge 

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related Engineering discipline from an accredited curriculum, with courses in Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering and fifteen (15) years of experience in an applicable field of expertise; OR

Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related Engineering discipline from an accredited curriculum, with courses in Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering and twelve (12) years of experience in an applicable field of expertise

Knowledge in the principles and practices of Civil, Geologic, Geotechnical, or Hydrologic Engineering or a related field of Science or Engineering

  • Able to demonstrate technical competence through design and/or operations experience in at least one of the following work areas: tailings storage, water dams, process water balance
  • Knowledge of appropriate software (MS Office, AutoCAD) and Geotechnical data analysis
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing to a diversely educated audience
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety of yourself and others
  • Fluency in English
  • Ability to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
  • Skill in effective communication, both verbal and written, including the ability to actively listen and to adapt behavior and communication style based upon the audience
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skill in following safety practices, and recognizing, controlling and/or eliminating hazards Ability to build trust and credibility with employees/peers and establish common goals and expectations
  • Strong analytical skills

Position will include competitive daily rate starting at $1000/day, plus 401K match, medical, dental and vision insurance that start on day 1. If candidate is not local to Denver, client will provide accommodations and travel for a 4 week on, 1 week work from home rotation, along with monthly stipend for living expenses.
