The Client is seeking an experienced Planner/Scheduler Manager to support capital projects at its Safford, Arizona operation.
This contract position will manage and direct project planning and scheduling resources within the Project Controls function. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring all aspects of project planning and scheduling comply with Client procedures, standards and project execution requirements.
The Planner/Scheduler Manager will maintain ownership of planning policies and procedures, help mitigate schedule risk, mentor project teams and provide strategic guidance across engineering, procurement, contracting and construction activities.
This position requires expert-level planning and scheduling knowledge, strong leadership capabilities and the ability to perform detailed analysis of complex project schedules.
Analyze complex project execution and planning issues and drive appropriate resolutions.
Utilize advanced analytical skills to review project plans, identify schedule risks and provide leadership in resolving planning challenges.
Collaborate with senior management, project management and operational leadership to support the development of project execution plans.
Review project schedules to ensure alignment with overall project execution strategies.
Ensure baseline schedule requirements and quality standards are met.
Communicate schedule risks, concerns and recommended solutions to management.
Establish new planning and scheduling procedures and guidelines as required.
Review, maintain and improve existing planning procedures and standards.
Ensure planning activities are performed in accordance with Client standards, procedures and schedule version-control requirements.
Mentor and provide guidance to project planners and schedulers, acting as a key resource for problem resolution.
Lead and develop the project planning and scheduling team.
Support the organizational structure, recruitment and development of strategic planning and scheduling resources.
Assume responsibility for Primavera P6 system configuration and licensing.
Assess and further develop global and project security profiles, including EPS and OBS structures.
Maintain the integrity of the Client's Primavera P6 cloud environment.
Perform additional duties as required.
The Planner/Scheduler Manager will be responsible for resolving complex project controls and scheduling issues while leading and implementing effective solutions.
The position requires a high degree of creativity, flexibility and independent decision-making. The successful candidate will regularly collaborate with senior management, project management and operational leadership.
The role operates with limited supervision and has significant autonomy to establish objectives, priorities and timelines that impact the Project Controls team.
The position will also provide leadership and direction to a team of planners and schedulers.
Knowledge, Skills & ExperienceBroad knowledge of heavy industrial construction principles and practices.
Strong understanding of project planning, scheduling and project controls.
Ability to research and analyze complex information and draw well-supported conclusions.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to adapt communication style depending on the audience.
Ability to work effectively with senior management, project leadership, engineering teams and construction personnel.
Understanding of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions.
Strong commitment to safe working practices and the ability to recognize, control and eliminate workplace hazards.
Ability to build trust and credibility across project teams and establish common goals and expectations.
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Demonstrated leadership experience managing planners and schedulers.
Preferred ExperienceExperience supporting the construction of metal mining operations, with exposure across multiple construction disciplines.
Experience working on large-scale capital or mega-projects.
Experience supporting Combined Cycle Power Plant and/or LNG projects.
Experience with civil project cost estimating, project scheduling and broader project controls activities.
Strong experience with scheduling software, particularly Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
Spanish language skills would be highly beneficial.
QualificationsBachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business or a related field, with at least 15 years of industrial project planning experience, preferably within mining, including a minimum of 10 years of project planning experience; or
High School Diploma/GED with at least 20 years of industrial project planning experience, preferably within mining, including a minimum of 10 years of project planning experience.
Expert-level knowledge and hands-on experience with Primavera P6 scheduling software.
Excellent organizational and planning skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to mentor, train and develop other planning and scheduling professionals.
