The Opportunity
Our client is seeking a hands-on Electrical Technician to support pre-commissioning, commissioning, energization, and startup activities for a major roject in Bagdad, Arizona. Reporting to the Electrical Lead, this position will verify installations, perform field testing, support equipment commissioning, and help ensure electrical systems are safe and ready for operation.
The role covers medium- and low-voltage cabling, switchgear, motor control centers, transformers, UPS systems, motors, field devices, lighting, small power, and associated protection and control circuits. This is a field-focused opportunity for a technician who works safely, follows procedures closely, and produces accurate commissioning records.
Key Responsibilities
Installation Verification and Readiness
- Verify the installation of MV/LV cables and cable trays, switchgear, MCCs, distribution boards, transformers, UPS systems, motors, and field electrical devices.
- Confirm installations comply with single-line diagrams, wiring and termination drawings, cable schedules, layouts, project specifications, and approved standards.
- Inspect cable terminations, glands, equipment labeling, earthing/grounding, panel condition, cleanliness, and general installation quality.
- Verify system readiness before energization and report defects, incomplete work, or unsafe conditions to the Electrical Lead.
Pre-Commissioning and Electrical Testing
- Perform cable identification, continuity, polarity, insulation-resistance, and earth-resistance checks.
- Complete functional testing of control circuits and support testing of switchgear, MCCs, transformers, and protection systems.
- Support motor rotation checks, no-load testing, and commissioning of motors and drives.
- Record test results accurately, identify anomalies, and assist with troubleshooting and corrective actions.
Energization and Startup Support
- Assist with electrical system energization under the direction of the Electrical Lead or responsible engineer.
- Follow approved switching procedures, isolation plans, permits, and pre-energization safety checks.
- Monitor electrical systems and equipment during energization, startup, and early operation and promptly report abnormalities.
- Support commissioning of lighting, small-power systems, UPS systems, battery banks, motors, drives, and related equipment.
- Troubleshoot electrical faults and equipment issues and help confirm reliable operation following energization.
Documentation and System Completion
- Complete and maintain test sheets, commissioning checklists, cable-test reports, protection relay settings, and energization records.
- Report daily progress, defects, constraints, and punch-list items to the Electrical Lead.
- Identify electrical punch-list items and support their closure before system energization and handover.
- Assist with red-line drawings, as-built documentation, system dossiers, and preparation for handover to operations.
Health, Safety, and Environment
- Follow all client HSE policies, electrical safety procedures, permit-to-work requirements, and LOTOTO controls.
- Use the correct PPE and test equipment for each electrical activity.
- Identify hazards, stop unsafe work when required, and report unsafe acts or conditions promptly.
- Participate actively in toolbox talks, risk assessments, pre-task planning, and safety meetings.
