Introduction

Brunel are partnered with a leading resource company and seeking a Senior .NET Developer. This role is a great opportunity for someone with strong backend .NET experience and a solid understanding of mathematical concepts and optimisation techniques.

About this role

The Senior .NET Developer - Optimisation is a highly skilled software engineer with strong experience in building scalable backend systems using .NET technologies. A solid understanding of mathematical concepts and principles supports their ability to design and enhance task assignment and optimisation features within autonomous systems. With a proven track record of delivering high-performance, scalable solutions, they will collaborate with domain experts, architects, and development teams to assist in improving existing algorithms within the existing product suite.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain the assignment engine which dynamically allocates tasks to autonomous assets, leveraging mathematical techniques and real-time data integration.
  • Collaborate with Architects, Development teams, Verification teams, and other domain experts to translate operational requirements into detailed, high-quality algorithm specifications and implementations.
  • Provide expert guidance in solving complex optimisation problems, such as minimising idle time, optimising routes, and balancing fleet utilisation in mining operations.
  • Develop and maintain reusable NuGet packages for optimisation algorithms and related components.
  • Mentor other engineers, sharing expertise in mathematical optimisation and software development to accelerate team growth and knowledge sharing.
  • Actively participate in technical discussions, advocating for solutions that balance practical implementation versus perfect algorithm.

Is this you?

  • Bachelor's or Higher degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related field - or equivalent industry experience.
  • 7+ years of software development experience, with at least 3 years focused on optimisation algorithms, ideally in autonomous systems or logistics.
  • Understanding of mathematical optimisation techniques.
  • Strong proficiency in C# and .NET, with proven experience implementing mathematical models in production-grade software.
  • Familiarity with real-time systems, microservices, and asynchronous processing to handle dynamic data inputs from mining operations.
  • Passion for staying current with advancements in optimisation techniques and software engineering practices.

Personal Behaviours:

  • Excellent communication skills to articulate complex mathematical concepts and technical solutions to diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical mindset with a rigorous approach to problem-solving and validation.
  • Collaborative and adaptable, thriving in cross-functional teams under dynamic project conditions.
  • Interpersonal skills to build trust and mentor colleagues effectively.
