Brunel has partnered with a leading resources company on a contract opportunity for a Senior Data Scientist who can deliver ML and GenAI solutions into production and work closely with stakeholders in a complex environment.

About this role

This role focuses on delivering end-to-end data science and AI solutions in complex production environments, partnering with stakeholders to turn real business problems into reliable, scalable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse complex datasets to deliver actionable insights, communicating outcomes to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Gather and validate requirements for data science initiatives, ensuring alignment to business objectives.
  • Lead the development, optimisation, and deployment of ML and GenAI solutions, including model evaluation and responsible use.
  • Apply AI ethics and governance principles to ensure solutions are safe, explainable, and fit-for-purpose.
  • Conduct applied research and stay current with open-source and emerging technology trends to uplift capability.
  • Build production-ready software using strong engineering practices, testing, and validation.
  • Contribute to solution architecture and systems design to support effective enterprise integration.
  • Support data integrity, security, and accessibility, including data management processes and pipeline optimisation.
  • Mentor and coach other data scientists, contributing to standards and best practices across the team.

Is this you?

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, mathematics, statistics, machine learning, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years' experience in delivering end-to-end data science and AI solutions in complex, production environments, preferably within the mining, energy, green energy, or heavy industrial operations.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, evaluating, and deploying machine learning and generative AI solutions in enterprise environments, including prompt engineering, model evaluation and responsible use.
  • Experience in natural language processing, computer vision, or predictive analytics is highly regarded.
  • Familiarity with Git/GitHub, experimentation workflows, and collaborative model development.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, SQL, and at least one deep machine learning framework such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Experience and understanding of platforms such as Snowflake, Kafka, S3, and Databricks or SageMaker.
  • Familiar with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
  • Practical experience with software development industry best practices.
  • Highly proficient in the use of Generative AI for analysis, development, deployment and decision-making.
