Introduction

On behalf of our client, a tier 1 mining company, we are recruiting for a Senior Project Engineer to support the safe and efficient delivery of brownfield and sustaining capital projects across their operations. This Perth-based role, with site travel, will provide technical leadership, project management expertise, and execution oversight to ensure projects align with operational needs and drive long-term asset performance.

About this role

Project Management & Delivery

  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of sustaining capital and operational improvement projects across fixed plant and supporting infrastructure.
  • Develop project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and execution strategies in line with corporate governance processes.
  • Manage project lifecycle from concept through to close-out, including risk assessments, design reviews, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Ensure projects comply with internal standards, statutory requirements, Australian Standards, and industry best practice.

Technical & Engineering Leadership

  • Provide engineering oversight and technical assurance across multi-disciplinary project elements (mechanical, structural, electrical, civil).
  • Review engineering deliverables, ensuring constructability, maintainability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Identify opportunities for optimisation and operational efficiency within iron ore plant and equipment.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, planning, and site-based personnel to ensure project alignment with production requirements.
  • Manage external engineering consultants, OEMs, and contractors to deliver safe, quality project outcomes.
  • Prepare and present project updates, reports, and approvals for senior leadership and governance bodies.

Commercial & Contract Management

  • Assist with procurement strategies, tender evaluation, contract award, and ongoing contractor performance management.
  • Monitor budgets, forecasts, variations, and cost control processes to maintain commercial discipline.

Safety & Risk Management

  • Champion safety in design and construction, ensuring compliance with site HSE standards and Critical Risk controls.
  • Lead risk workshops, HAZOPs, constructability reviews, and project readiness assessments.
  • Drive a proactive approach to safety, quality, and environmental performance across all project phases.

Is this you?

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Structural)
  • Extensive experience in project engineering within the mining or heavy industrial sector.
  • Strong background in brownfields construction, sustaining capital projects, or operational improvement projects.
  • Proven experience developing scopes of work, schedules, cost estimates, and execution plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and manage contractors.
  • Excellent understanding of Australian Standards, mining regulations, and project governance frameworks.
  • Strong communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.

Highly Regarded

  • Iron ore experience (processing plants, materials handling, NPI infrastructure).
  • Exposure to project controls, procurement, and contract administration.
  • Experience working within tier-1 mining companies or EPC/EPCM environments.
