Introduction

The C&A Engineer works within the CAST team as part of a multidisciplinary and agile organization. Responsibilities include maintaining and optimizing Industrial Automation and Control Systems (IACS), ensuring system uptime, supporting alarm management, supporting projects and delivering cyber security hygiene. The role may require off-hours support and shift coverage during critical operational events.

What are you going to do

Purpose & Accountabilities:

The Control and Automation Engineer is responsible for the care, custody, and optimization of control systems. Key accountabilities include:

  • Act as system owner for DCS, SIS, and related IACS infrastructure.
  • Provide operational support and critical maintenance for IACS hosts and networks.
  • Support functional safety sensors, end elements, and logic solvers.
  • Deliver technical support and assurance on modifications and projects, covering design, specification, FAT, commissioning and performance.
  • Advise internal stakeholders on C&A-related issues, including cyber resilience.
  • Contribute to alarm management initiatives, including suppression, inhibit support, and optimization.
  • Contribute to system changes, upgrades, and commercial evaluations of PCD equipment.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines, functions, and third parties on control and automation matters.

Essential skills and knowledge 

Education & Experience:

We are looking for a Control and Automation professional with relevant technical qualifications and industry experience, including:

  • HBO degree (or equivalent) in Control & Automation or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience with DCS and ESD control systems, ideally in onshore/offshore oil & gas.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows/PLC-based technologies and cyber security hygiene practices.
  • Familiarity with industry standards within the C&A discipline (ability to apply them effectively).
  • High level of personal independence, initiative, and ownership.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; customer focus and commercial awareness.
  • Ability to work flexibly, develop new skills, and support system troubleshooting in a 24/7 operational context.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and with third parties on automation-related projects.
