Our client, a leading EPC contractor supporting major FPSO and offshore Oil & Gas projects, is seeking an experienced Welding Engineer to join their project team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing welding engineering expertise throughout the fabrication, construction, integration, and commissioning phases of FPSO projects, ensuring compliance with project specifications, international standards, and client requirements.
- Develop, review, and implement Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualification Tests (WQT/WPQT) in accordance with project requirements.
- Provide welding engineering support for FPSO fabrication, topsides module construction, hull conversion, integration, and offshore installation activities.
- Ensure all welding activities comply with applicable codes, standards, and client specifications, including ASME, AWS, API, and ISO requirements.
- Review engineering drawings, material specifications, welding maps, and fabrication procedures to support production activities.
- Monitor welding operations and oversee implementation of approved welding procedures.
- Coordinate welder qualification and certification activities to ensure workforce competency and compliance.
- Support construction and fabrication teams in resolving welding-related technical issues and production challenges.
- Investigate welding defects and failures, conduct root cause analysis, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Liaise with Engineering, Construction, QA/QC, NDT, Client, and Subcontractor teams on welding-related matters.
- Review NDT results, repair procedures, and welding quality records to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Ensure proper control, storage, and usage of welding consumables and materials.
- Monitor welding productivity, repair rates, and quality performance indicators, implementing improvement initiatives as required.
- Prepare welding procedures, technical reports, method statements, inspection plans, and project documentation.
- Participate in audits, inspections, client meetings, and quality reviews.
- Ensure compliance with all HSE, QA/QC, and project requirements throughout project execution.
Requirements
- Degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Welding Engineer within the Oil & Gas, Offshore, Marine, Shipbuilding, or Energy industries.
- Proven experience working on FPSO projects, including fabrication, module construction, topsides, hull conversion, integration, or offshore installation activities.
- Strong knowledge of welding processes, including SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, and SAW.
- Experience working with carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex stainless steel, super duplex stainless steel, and nickel-based alloys.
- Sound knowledge of international codes and standards such as ASME Section IX, AWS, API, ISO 3834, and related industry requirements.
- Hands-on experience in preparing and qualifying WPS, PQR, WPQT, and welder qualification records.
- Good understanding of welding metallurgy, heat treatment, weldability, weld defects, and failure analysis.
- Familiarity with NDT methods including RT, UT, PAUT, TOFD, MT, PT, and VT.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, fabrication documents, welding maps, and technical specifications.
- Experience working with EPC contractors, fabrication yards, or shipyards supporting FPSO projects is highly preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, multicultural project environment.
- International Welding Engineer (IWE) certification.
- CSWIP 3.1/3.2, AWS-CWI, or equivalent professional certification.
- Experience supporting major FPSO projects executed by EPC contractors.
- Previous experience working in Singapore-based fabrication yards, shipyards, or offshore construction projects would be advantageous.
