Introduction

Our client, a leading mining and processing operation based in Kwinana, is seeking an experienced Trainer & Assessor to join their team and play a key role in supporting workforce capability, compliance, and safe plant operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated training professional with strong operational experience and a passion for safety, competency development, and workforce capability in a heavy industrial environment.

What are you going to do

Reporting to the Senior Training Advisor, the Trainer & Assessor will be responsible for delivering and assessing training programs that ensure employees and contractors are competent, compliant, and able to perform their roles safely and effectively.

A major focus of this position will be conducting practical, in-field competency assessments, including Verification of Competency (VOC) and High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) activities, alongside delivering critical site-based safety and compliance training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct workplace and in-field operational competency assessments aligned to site procedures and Standard Work Instructions
  • Perform Verification of Competency (VOC) assessments, including High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) activities
  • Deliver HSE inductions, Permit to Work (PTW) training, safety-critical training, and nationally recognised/site-based programs
  • Facilitate engaging training across classroom, practical, and on-the-job learning environments
  • Develop, maintain, and improve assessment tools including diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments
  • Ensure all assessments are valid, fair, compliant, and accurately documented
  • Maintain accurate training records and evidence within the Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to employees, contractors, and stakeholders regarding training and competency requirements
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the training function

Essential skills and knowledge 

To be successful in this role, you will bring strong technical training expertise within operational environments and the ability to build strong relationships across site teams.

Essential Requirements

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE)
  • Proven experience delivering training and conducting assessments in both classroom and operational (in-field) environments
  • Demonstrated experience conducting VOC assessments, including HRWL-related activities
  • Experience delivering HSE inductions, PTW training, and safety-critical training
  • Strong knowledge of competency-based training and National Competency Standards
  • Experience developing training and assessment materials aligned to competency requirements
  • Experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS) for training records management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Desirable Requirements

  • Certificate III or IV in Process Plant Operations (or similar)
  • Experience within mining, resources, processing, or heavy industry environments
  • Experience using LMS platforms such as SAP SuccessFactors or similar
  • Experience delivering or assessing nationally recognised training in high-risk operational environments
