Senior Marine Civil/Structural Engineer

Location: Remote and Site (Japan & Indonesia)

Site rotation: Japan - 8 weeks in office, 2 weeks off /not working at home and Indonesia - 8 weeks on site, 3 weeks off/not working

Introduction

Brunel is currently seeking an experienced Senior Marine Civil/Structural Engineer to support our mining client on a global project based in Tokyo, Japan, with the jobsite located in Timika, Indonesia. You will lead EPC contractors for marine, subsurface and onshore structure works for PTFI's Shiploader 2 design and construction phases. Supervise, provide technical guidance, interpret, manage project tasks and/or participate in activities to support civil (earthworks, piling, concrete, site supervision of civil activities etc), and marine structural (trestle, berthing, mooring, ship loader, wharf and conveyors). Additional activities include inspection, measurement, interpretation, geotechnical report and 3-D model reviews, MTOs, analysis, coordination, problem solving, forecasting, reporting for the project design office and then construction support at site. This role involves collaborating on a multidisciplinary project, providing technical advice and guidance for all phases of a complex engineering project, ensuring that all civil/structural/marine designs meet industry standards and client performance requirements as well as schedule and budget.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate in engineering projects to ensure good performance of marine civil facilities such as trestle wharf and conveyor systems.
  • Supervise or serve as owner's representative and technical expert for civil/structural/marine for the addition of a second ship loader to an existing copper export facility
  • Lead contractors in the execution of project deliverables.
  • Provide Senior level quality assurance on project deliverables.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities.
  • Develop and/or review scopes of work, evaluate proposals, for contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment as approved and required.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements and determine associated value for risk reduction measures.
  • Interface with Project Management and Operations teams as the Engineering team representative leading up to and through project commissioning to ensure timely and complete transfer of technical deliverables.
  • Attend site visits to support site evaluation, suitability, and due diligence efforts.
  • Support the project construction onsite during construction phase

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Operate independently to achieve company and project goals.
  • Provide reporting to other groups and leadership.
  • Manage and /or mentor engineers in key practice areas to level of capabilities.
  • Assist in the development of work and process flow for corporate team.
  • Ability to provide positive and constructive feedback.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related Engineering discipline from an accredited curriculum and ten (10) years of experience in an applicable field of expertise.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Knowledge in the principles and practices of Civil, Structural and Marine Engineering as well as Seismic requirements for marine facilities
  • Working knowledge of Engineering tools (AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Navisworks). Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Microsoft Project experience is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal, prioritization, and time management skills. Ability to multi-task while managing multiple projects and multiple engineering team initiatives.
  • Fluency in English language
  • Ability to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
  • Skill in effective communication, both verbal and written, including the ability to actively listen and to adapt behavior and communication style based upon the audience
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skill in following safety practices, and recognizing, controlling and/or eliminating hazards
  • Ability to build trust and credibility with employees/peers and establish common goals and expectations
  • Strong analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in civil engineering with Marine Engineering specialization
  • Experience with seismic design of structures particularly marine (ASCE 61)
  • Experience with material handling design and mineral processing operations
  • Experience with cost estimating for civil marine projects, project scheduling and project controls.
  • Experience with offshore geotechnical slope stability and liquefaction risk analysis and design
  • Experience reviewing geotechnical engineering reports and documents for offshore piling and onshore piling and shallow foundations
  • Engineering experience in geotechnical analyses include field investigations, lab testing, soil characterization, slope stability, and seismic analysis.
  • Experience in construction support activities including concrete testing and structural/marine QA/QC requirements
  • Superior interpersonal as well as written and oral communication skills with diverse international teams of technical and non-technical staff
  • Conversant in Japanese and or Bahasa Indonesian languages
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestic / international
