Introduction

Our client is seeking experienced Roughnecks to assist operations on a specialised drilling rig supporting a key underground mining project in WA. This is a specialised scope of work and we are looking specifically for caniddates with land based oil drilling experience.

What are you going to do

Key Responsibilities

  • Support safe and efficient rig-floor operations on the VR-330 land drilling rig during shift operations.
  • Assist with commissioning and startup of the new VR-330 rig, including pre-start checks, equipment familiarisation and operational readiness activities.
  • Work under the direction of the Driller and Toolpusher to complete assigned rig-floor efficiently.
  • Assist with tripping pipe, making and breaking connections, tubular handling and drill string management.
  • Support drilling activities in accordance with approved drilling programs, procedures and supervisor instructions.
  • Assist with downhole tool deployment, retrieval and handling during directional drilling operations.
  • Monitor rig-floor equipment condition and report hazards, defects or operational issues to the Driller.
  • Assist with drilling fluids, mud system support and general rig maintenance as directed.
  • Participate in pre-start inspections, shift handovers, toolbox talks and required safety interactions.
  • Support basic troubleshooting and maintenance tasks to minimise downtime and maintain productivity.
  • Assist with rig mobilisation, rig-up and rig-down activities as required.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards and contribute to a strong team culture focused on safety, accountability and performance.

Essential skills and knowledge 

Essential Requirements

  • Experience as a Roughneck, Floorman, Leasehand or similar land rig role.
  • Hands-on experience with tubular handling, tripping pipe, making and breaking connections, and drill-string handling.
  • Sound understanding of drilling operations, equipment and rig-floor safety.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and practical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to follow the Driller's direction and work effectively within a drill crew.
  • Experience with rig commissioning, mobilisation, startup, rig-up or rig-down activities.
  • Strong safety focus and ability to work in remote FIFO environments.
  • Current White Card, Working at Heights and Confined Space Entry.
  • Current First Aid certificate and C Class Manual Driver's Licence.
  • Valid National Police Clearance.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screening.

Highly Regarded

  • VR-330 or similar mechanical land rig experience.
  • Directional drilling and downhole tool experience.
  • Mining, civil or infrastructure drilling experience.
  • Front-end loader ticket or additional high-risk work licences.
  • IWCF or IADC Well Control certification.
  • Certificate II-IV, Diploma in Drilling Operations or equivalent qualification
