Role Overview

The Project Planner / Scheduler is responsible for developing, maintaining, and monitoring the project schedule to ensure timely delivery across all phases. The role is office-based approximately 2 years (with partial remote flexibility) during the engineering phase, and transitions to a site-based position during construction and commissioning approximately 2 years. At site, the Planner / Scheduler will play a key role in collecting and verifying progress data from subcontractors and ensuring accurate reporting of project status.

What are you going to do

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a detailed Level 3 CPM schedule covering engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Establish and manage baseline schedules and maintain monthly forecast updates.
  • Structure the schedule logically, including milestones, dependencies, and interfaces across disciplines.
  • Prepare schedules in MS Project and/or Primavera, with outputs in both native and PDF formats; use of Safran Schedule is an advantage.
  • Conduct monthly updates: apply status dates, update progress (% complete), and provide variance analysis.
  • Identify and communicate critical path, near-critical activities, and float.
  • Ensure all activities are properly coded (discipline, responsibility, building/system references).
  • During engineering phase:
    • Collaborate with design and procurement teams to reflect document handovers, reviews, and vendor deliverables.
    • Coordinate schedule interfaces with stakeholders.
  • During construction and commissioning phase:
    • Be present on site to collect, validate, and consolidate progress data from multiple subcontractors.
    • Verify reported progress against actual performance.
    • Support site teams with short-term planning and look-ahead schedules.
  • Provide clear reporting outputs including Gantt charts, progress tables, and variance summaries.
  • Support preparation of monthly progress reports and presentations to project leadership and client.

Essential skills and knowledge 

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering, Project Management, or related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of professional experience, including proven track record as a Project Planner / Scheduler on large industrial or EPC projects, especially power plants
  • Strong knowledge of CPM scheduling, baseline management, and progress measurement methods.
  • Proficiency in MS Project and/or Primavera; knowledge of Safran Schedule is an advantage.
  • Experience preparing Level 3 schedules with complex multi-discipline interfaces.
  • Ability to collect, interpret, and verify subcontractor progress data.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work across multicultural project teams.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken); German language skills are an advantage.
