What are you going to do

We are partnering with our client, a respected organization in the Oil and Gas sector, to appoint a Lifting Appointed Person to support key EAC projects in Abu Dhabi. In this pivotal role, you will take ownership of planning, coordinating, controlling, and safely executing all lifting operations, working closely with our client's team to maintain the highest safety and performance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, supervise, and control all lifting operations across assigned EAC projects in Abu Dhabi.
  • Prepare, review, and approve lifting plans, critical lift plans, method statements, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
  • Select suitable cranes, configurations, lifting accessories, rigging arrangements, and lifting methodologies based on load and site conditions.
  • Verify crane setup, load charts, working radius, boom configuration, SWL, ground conditions, and outrigger arrangements before lifting.
  • Classify lifting activities as routine, non-routine, complex, or critical and ensure appropriate planning and authorization.
  • Ensure cranes, lifting equipment, and accessories are inspected, certified, maintained, and fit for purpose.
  • Verify the competency, certification, and authorization of crane operators, lifting supervisors, riggers, and signalmen/banksmen.
  • Conduct pre-lift meetings, toolbox talks, and site inspections to ensure compliance with approved lifting plans and safe working practices.
  • Assess site constraints including ground stability, underground utilities, overhead services, excavations, confined areas, and access limitations.
  • Establish and maintain lifting exclusion zones and effective access control during lifting activities.
  • Coordinate lifting activities for pipelines, pumping stations, utilities, infrastructure, structural erection, deep excavations, and heavy equipment installation, as applicable.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Construction Managers, HSE teams, Site Engineers, lifting supervisors, operators, riggers, and signalmen.
  • Stop lifting operations where unsafe conditions, equipment defects, plan deviations, or unacceptable risks are identified.
  • Maintain lifting registers, certification, inspection records, approved lifting plans, and other required documentation.
  • Support lifting-related incidents and near-miss investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Establish and enforce procedures for reporting lifting equipment defects and ensuring corrective action before reused.
  • Conduct and support competency training for lifting supervisors and other lifting personnel.
  • Ensure all lifting activities comply with approved procedures, project HSE requirements, UAE/Abu Dhabi regulations, client requirements, and recognized international lifting standards.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Technical diploma/degree in Mechanical Engineering, Lifting Engineering, Marine/Offshore Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • 8-12+ years of lifting/crane experience, with significant experience in Oil & Gas, petrochemical, offshore, EPC, construction, or shutdown/turnaround projects.
  • Demonstrable experience progressing from Rigger/Slinger → Lifting Supervisor/Coordinator → Appointed Person is advantageous.
