Brunel is exclusively partnering with APA Group to appoint a Head of Asset Operations into a key leadership role within its Gas West operations business.

APA is one of Australia's leading energy infrastructure businesses, with a diversified portfolio spanning gas, electricity, solar and wind assets across the country. The business owns and operates extensive gas transmission and processing infrastructure and plays a critical role in connecting energy supply to homes, businesses and industry across Australia.

This opportunity will see you take accountability for APA's WA gas transmission assets, leading the safe, reliable and efficient delivery of operational outcomes across a strategically important portfolio supporting critical energy supply in Western Australia.

What are you going to do

As Head of Asset Operations, you will provide leadership across APA's WA gas transmission assets, ensuring assets are managed safely, efficiently and in line with business objectives. You will lead operational teams, drive continuous improvement, strengthen leadership capability and deliver against performance, risk and reliability targets.

Reflecting the scale, complexity and strategic importance of APA's asset base, the business is appointing an additional Head of Asset Operations. This creates an outstanding opportunity for an experienced leader to step into a newly defined portfolio with genuine executive visibility and impact.

This is a high-impact leadership role for a proven operations leader with experience in oil and gas or other complex, safety-critical processing environments. It will suit someone who can make an immediate impact while also offering strong longer-term succession potential within the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the safe and reliable operation of APA's WA gas transmission assets
  • Drive operational performance across safety, customer, cost, risk and reliability metrics
  • Provide visible leadership to site and operational teams, building capability, accountability and high performance
  • Develop and execute operational strategies aligned to broader business objectives
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, technical and governance requirements
  • Strengthen asset integrity, maintenance effectiveness and operational risk management
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders across engineering, maintenance, commercial and executive leadership
  • Champion continuous improvement and operational excellence across the WA gas asset portfolio
  • Support succession planning and leadership development within the operations team

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Significant leadership experience in asset operations within oil and gas, energy, refinery, process plant, or similar complex environments
  • Strong understanding of operational leadership across complex, regulated and safety-critical infrastructure environments
  • Proven capability leading the leaders of multi-disciplinary teams across live operating assets
  • Experience managing operational risk, reliability, maintenance and performance outcomes
  • Strong commercial and strategic acumen, with the ability to balance short-term delivery and long-term asset value
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the credibility to influence across all levels of the business
  • A leadership style that is visible, pragmatic, collaborative and focused on accountability and development
