We are looking for an analytical Estimating Engineer to join our Core Central Function team. You will prepare and review capital cost estimates for global projects, from conceptual stages to detailed estimates, providing essential financial data for project sanctioning and controls.
What are you going to do
Prepare, review, and present multi-disciplinary cost estimates (Class 5 to Class 2/1 per AACE guidelines) for major capital projects in the oil & gas, energy, or related sectors.
Develop estimates based on historical data, conceptual design, equipment lists, P&IDs, plot plans, and construction execution plans.
Perform quantitative analysis (quantity take-offs) from engineering drawings and documents to build detailed bottom-up estimates.
Research and apply current market pricing for equipment, materials, and labor rates, factoring in location and project-specific conditions.
Analyze and benchmark contractor and vendor quotes to ensure competitiveness and completeness.
Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to understand scope, methodology, and risks that impact project cost.
Prepare basis of estimate (BOE) documentation that clearly outlines scope inclusions, exclusions, assumptions, and risks.
Support the project risk management process by providing cost data for probabilistic cost risk analysis (e.g., using @Risk or Crystal Ball).
Participate in estimate reviews with project teams, management, and partners.
Contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of the company's cost database, historical data, and estimating tools and standards.
Essential skills and knowledge
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
A minimum of 5-7 years of experience as an Estimating Engineer or Cost Estimator, specifically within the oil & gas, energy, or major infrastructure sectors.
Demonstrable experience preparing estimates for large-scale (>$100M) EPC/EPCM projects across various stages (Conceptual, FEED, Detailed Engineering).
Required: Strong proficiency in Aspen Tech Capital Cost Estimator (ACCE) or similar industry-standard estimating software. Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential.
In-depth knowledge of AACE International recommended practices and estimate classification.
Strong understanding of engineering deliverables, construction techniques, and project execution strategies.
Experience with cost risk analysis and benchmarking methodologies is highly desirable.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
Superior communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present and defend estimate assumptions and outcomes to all levels of management.
