Environmental Compliance Lead

Kamloops, British Columbia (Onsite)

Schedule: 10/4 or 14/7 rotation

Introduction

Brunel is currently seeking an Environmental Compliance Lead to support one of our mining clients on a major project located near Kamloops, British Columbia. Reporting to the HSEC Manager, this role is responsible for ensuring full compliance with all applicable environmental laws, regulations, and standards throughout the project lifecycle.

This is a site-based position operating on a 10/4 or 14/7 rotation, offering the opportunity to play a key role in environmental stewardship, regulatory compliance, and sustainability within a large-scale industrial mining environment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal environmental

regulations.

  • Conduct regular environmental audits and inspections of facilities and operations.
  • Maintain and update environmental permits, records, and documentation.
  • Develop and implement environmental policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Coordinate waste management, hazardous materials handling, and pollution prevention strategies.
  • Investigate environmental incidents and support corrective action plans.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports (e.g., emissions, waste, water usage).
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies and respond to inquiries or inspections through the HVC Environmental Team.
  • Support sustainability initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Stay current with changes in environmental legislation and best practices.
  • Work closely with the Engagement Coordinator to ensure compliance to project engagement commitments

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in environmental compliance or a similar role.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations (e.g., CEPA, BC Environmental Management Act).
  • Experience with environmental audits, reporting, and permitting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and environmental management systems.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Professional certification (e.g., EP, CHMM, or similar).
  • Experience in heavy industrial project environments.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 or other environmental management standards.
  • Working knowledge of applicable federal and provincial legislation.
  • Positive and effective interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Resilient and adaptable - able to thrive in a dynamic work environment, managing competing
  • priorities and deadlines and adjusting activities and approaches as applicable.
  • Excellent planning, problem-solving, and coordination skills.
  • Team-oriented but individually driven to produce results.
  • Manages personal workload to ensure completion of tasks within schedules.
  • Demonstrates leadership in health, safety and environmental protection culture and follows company procedures and directions.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office and data-management software.
  • A valid driver's license and a driver's abstract are required.

Working Conditions:

  • Office and field-based work.
  • May require travel to various sites.
  • Occasional exposure to hazardous materials or environments
