Brunel has an exciting opportunity for a direct role with our client who is a global leader in the mining and metals industry as a Commercial Development Analyst.

What are you going to do

This position will be located in Phoenix, Arizona on a hybrid schedule which requires virtual collaboration as well as attending in-person meetings in Phoenix or at one of our site locations. Amenities at the office include a working café, phone booths and meeting rooms with technological tools for virtual and in-person collaboration. In-person attendance may vary based on the position and department requirements.

Duties:

This position supports commercial strategy and market growth by conducting research, analyzing financials, building competitive intelligence, and engaging with customers. This role blends technical insight with business development, requiring strong analytical and critical thinking skills, financial acumen and the ability to build effective relationships across internal teams and external stakeholders.

  • Conduct market research and support development of emerging sustainable copper markets.
  • Apply critical thinking, analytical skills, and financial acumen to evaluate commercial opportunities, assess risks, and recommend strategic actions.
  • Perform financial modeling and analysis of commercial transactions, logistics, netbacks, and strategic alternatives.
  • Build and maintain competitive intelligence databases to support strategic decision-making.
  • Engage with customers to understand their technical and commercial needs, identify trends, and build long-term relationships. Participate in customer meetings and site visits to strengthen relationships and gather market intelligence.
  • Attend industry conferences to expand market knowledge and professional networks.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align commercial strategies with business goals.

Essential skills and knowledge 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Mining Engineering, Mineral Processing, or a related technical field.
  • Demonstrated understanding and interest in base metals value chains and market fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated understanding and interest in the commercial aspects of the base metals and related industries (e.g., trading, marketing, business development).
  • Strong financial acumen and analytical/critical thinking abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability and willingness for heavy travel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or Master's in Mineral Economics preferred (e.g., Colorado School of Mines or similar programs).
