Introduction

This role is responsible for setting up, managing, and operating a coin cell laboratory to support battery material testing and development.

You will play a key role in both the initial lab build-out and ongoing operations, leading electrochemical testing activities, ensuring high standards of safety and quality, and supporting product development efforts.

What are you going to do

Laboratory Setup & Commissioning

  • Support the design, construction, and commissioning of the laboratory
  • Assist with procurement and installation of lab equipment
  • Establish lab workflows, processes, and operating procedures
  • Oversee day-to-day lab activities and ensure timely execution of testing programs
  • Manage laboratory inventory including chemicals, consumables, and equipment
  • Maintain compliance with internal standards and ISO requirements

Coin Cell Testing & Analysis

  • Assemble and test coin cells to evaluate battery material performance
  • Conduct electrochemical testing, including:
    • Charge/discharge cycling
    • Cyclic voltammetry (CV)
    • Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) (preferred)
  • Analyze data and prepare reports for internal stakeholders
  • Develop, review, and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Ensure all testing and documentation meets quality and regulatory standards
  • Maintain strong laboratory safety practices and compliance with OSHA regulations

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Supervise and mentor laboratory technicians
  • Provide technical support to cross-functional teams including operations, quality, and engineering
  • Act as a key point of contact for lab-related technical issues
  • Troubleshoot equipment and testing challenges
  • Improve lab processes and testing methodologies
  • Stay up to date with developments in battery technology and materials science

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
  • OR Bachelor's degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience
  • PhD preferred (especially for R&D-focused environments)
  • Hands-on experience with coin cell assembly (essential)
  • Experience working in glovebox environments (argon-filled preferred)
  • Strong background in electrochemical testing methods
  • Understanding of battery materials and performance metrics
  • Experience with analytical techniques such as SEM, XRD, XPS, or ICP (preferred)
  • Strong data analysis skills (Excel, Origin, JMP or similar)
  • Knowledge of battery safety protocols and lab standards
