Introduction

Did you know that it takes up to 500 years for plastic bags to disintegrate, while we normally use them for as little as 15 minutes per piece? This is the reality of single-use plastics!

This summer, the Brunel Foundation is challenging you to take action to reduce your plastic footprint.  Plastic Free July® is a global movement helping millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution. It's about learning to make small changes and choosing to refuse the single-use plastics we use every day.

Bruneller Angela Lazo-Flores has already committed to a more sustainable lifestyle. Let her story inspire you! Are you next?

There are lots of opportunities to do your bit very easily. This is what I do, trying to do my little part. What's yours?

"I am still amazed to see people using a plastic bag for one piece of fruit"

"Many years ago, I used to-go cups, straws, plastic bags for fruits, and so on. At that time, it didn't come to my mind how unnecessary and harmful this behavior was.

Since sustainability became a bigger topic in our society, I started to question myself and my behavior. The more I saw pictures and documentaries of our seas covered in plastic and animals dying because of their ‘plastic menu’,  I realized that we, as human beings are responsible for all this and need to make a change, now.

Sometimes I find it hard to avoid plastics, because a lot of things we buy are wrapped in it, but I do my best whenever possible. When I buy yogurt, milk or beverages, I usually buy the products that come in glass. When I buy an apple, I definitely do not need a plastic bag for it. I am still amazed to see people using a plastic bag for one piece of fruit or ginger. A lot of cafes offer to fill your coffee in your own cup. So, why still use to-go cups? All single-use plastics are easy to avoid, if you ask me.

It is not easy and sometimes nearly impossible avoid all plastics, but there are lots of opportunities to do your bit very easily. This is what I do, trying to do my little part. What's yours?"
