Scaling offshore wind, grid or repowering across Europe?

Wind now powers about a fifth of the EU’s electricity. And for the first time, wind and solar together have overtaken fossil fuels in Europe’s energy mix. To reach net zero, Europe needs to add around 30GW of new wind capacity each year through 2030.

That means scaling quickly and delivering reliably across the entire value chain from offshore builds, onshore repowering to grid connection and operations. The pressure to deliver is on, and so is the demand for the specialist talent and teams.

According to  WindEurope's latest workforce report, more than 200,000 new wind workers will need to be recruited and trained over the next six years. The sharpest shortages are expected in roles such as blade technicians, field engineers and pre-assembly support technicians.

The next phase of Europe’s clean energy ambitions will be shaped not only by policy and capital, but by whether the industry can build the workforce needed to deliver projects on time and at scale.
