Introduction

  • In the role as Telecom IT technician to support Telecom activity in Ras Laffan North, South, Barzan, RLTO, HQ and remote support for offshore installations.
  • Performs all IT related tasks mainly on standalone Telecom system PC’s, network equipment, system support laptops and servers under various telecom systems such as Radio Base Station node Controllers, IMS 4000, OTN, PAGA, Digital Voice Recorders etc.
  • Most of the tasks are related to the recurring and/ or process controls which were outcome of the various IT risk assessments for the various telecom systems requiring the support and expertise of an IT support technician.
  • The tasks performed are mainly IT related to OS, AV, audit log, event backups, system restoration etc.
  • These include but are not limited to telecom compliance program and enhancement of compliance activities such as A/V and DAT updates, running of KVRT and on Windows Vulnerability patch updates on all Telecom standalone systems.
  • Troubleshooting Telecom standalone systems PC’s software and hardware issues.
  • Upgrade of Windows OS.
  • Backup of Windows OS (event log files/audit trails), application backups and other Windows OS related activities.
  • Backups of Standalone network switches of telecom systems.
  • Configuring RAID and troubleshooting RAID related issues in telecom systems running on Linux and windows-based machines.
  • Support in setting up WebEx sessions with vendors for telecom system support.

What are you going to do

  • Timely closure of IT related ISRA (Information System Risk Assessment) controls, and other recurring process controls for Telecom systems.
  • Support in performing Access reviews for various standalone Telecom systems such as PAGA, IDS, Radio management terminals etc.
  • Coordination and interface with IT Helpdesk support and ICS IT support teams as and when required.
  • Diagnose and resolve software and hardware incidents, including operating systems (Windows and Mac) and across a range of software applications.
  • Shall be thoroughly knowledgeable, have in depth experience, and be competent and experienced in the field of PC, laptop and server support.
  • Shall be capable of independently offering technical support, maintenance, troubleshooting, etc., to an appreciable extent for the IT scope of the telecom systems which shall include but not be limited to various telecom system components / devices such as node controllers, NIONS, network management terminals, PC based access panels, nondomain based network switches, radio programming laptops etc.
  • Shall be able to perform assigned recurring / process controls based on the risk assessments these include log monitoring, system scan for antivirus and DAT updates, vulnerability patching, taking system application and OS backups, including event log and configuration backups for all standalone (non-domain based) telecommunication system devices.
  • Support Maintenance activities shall also include system recovery involving reinstallation of OS and backed up application and system configuration.
  • Shall be able to independently prepare Job Safety Analysis (JSA’s), raise and get approved work permits and provide required support and assistance in raising eMOC’s, Risk Analysis report, Incident report etc.
  • Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering / Science in the field of Computer Applications / Electronics / Computer Engineering from a reputed University or recognized equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience out of which at least 2 years should have been in an oil and gas industry with hands on experience
  • IT / PC/ Server/ Network related training to help support the job description of an IT helpdesk support personal would be an added advantage.
  • Certification in Microsoft fundamentals would be preferred.
  • Should have a valid vehicle driving license preferably a Qatari driving license.
  • The position requires work in various locations mainly in the plant area requiring high level of safety awareness.
  • Shall have effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills in the English.
  • Know how in the use of computer-based permit to work on system workflows would be preferred.
  • Communication system analysis, troubleshooting, and repairs skills are required.
  • Should be able to provide IT support independently for all Telecoms systems installed at various installations
  • Installations of computer equipment and peripherals based on the telecom system installation demand.
  • Fulfil the telecom system requirement for software installations, software configurations, hardware relocations and other business requirements.
  • Facilitate telecom system IT component hardware and operating systems upgrades as and when necessary.
  • Participate in the telecom system computing projects for various IT initiatives.
  • Contributes to the development of software installation procedures and end user guides
  • The ability to demonstrate initiative to work and solve technical problems, accurately complete tasks on time independently and as part of a team in a potentially stressful environment is required.
