What are you going to do

  • Create effective irrigation system designs tailored to specific land and crop requirements. This includes selecting appropriate equipment, materials, and layout to maximize efficiency and minimize costs.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of soil types, moisture levels, and crop needs to inform irrigation strategies. Understanding the local environment is key to developing sustainable practices.
  • Building a database or a digital library for the latest related items including but not limited to irrigation systems, materials, and products through coordinating with contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop maintenance schedules for irrigation systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Analyze water availability and usage and develop strategies to optimize water resources. This includes exploring alternative water sources and conservation techniques.
  • Ensure all irrigation practices meet local, state, and federal regulations regarding water use and environmental protection. Staying compliant helps avoid legal issues and promotes sustainability.
  • Data Analysis: Utilize data collection and analysis tools to monitor system performance and make data-driven decisions. This enhances the effectiveness of irrigation practices and helps in forecasting needs.
  • Work closely with agronomists, landscape architects, and other professionals to develop integrated approaches to water management. Teamwork is essential for addressing complex irrigation challenges.
  • Stay updated on the latest irrigation technologies and practices through research and professional development. Continuous learning is vital for innovation in irrigation engineering.
  • Develop and manage budgets for irrigation projects, ensuring resource allocation aligns with project goals. Financial planning is crucial for the sustainability of irrigation initiatives.
  • Evaluate the environmental impacts of irrigation systems and practices, recommending improvements where necessary. This promotes responsible water use and protects ecosystems.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • BSc/BEng or equivalent degree in Irrigation or Mechanical or Agricultural or civil from a recognized university.
  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in irrigation system design and management is typically required. Practical experience is invaluable for understanding sites challenges.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant working experience with management capacity.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and GIS software is important for designing irrigation layouts and analyzing land data.
  • A strong understanding of hydraulic engineering. This knowledge informs decisions on pipe sizing, flow rates, and pressure management.
  • Knowledge of soil types and moisture retention characteristics is key to effective irrigation planning.
  • Awareness of local and national water use regulations is necessary for compliance. Understanding these regulations helps in designing sustainable irrigation systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Arabic.
  • Ability to identify and resolve issues related to irrigation systems is critical for maintaining performance. Innovative problem-solving leads to better system efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Certification related to irrigation design or management, such as those from the Irrigation Association, is a plus.
