Join our client's team as a Wells Engineer CWI - Front End, where you'll shape high‑quality tight‑coal well designs, support concept development, and enable safe, efficient delivery across drilling, completions and interventions. This role blends technical depth, collaboration and continuous improvement to drive strong operational and development outcomes.
We're seeking a Wells Engineer CWI - Front End to support the development of high‑quality well designs for tight‑coal assets. In this role, you'll apply strong front‑end engineering and fracture stimulation expertise to mature concepts, optimise designs and enable safe, efficient delivery across drilling, completions and well intervention activities. You'll work closely with multidisciplinary teams, contribute to continuous improvement and help build a high‑performing, collaborative culture.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and mature front‑end well and completion designs for tight‑coal development
* Support concept screening, design optimisation and preparation of Basis of Design and cost estimates* Integrate HSSE and regulatory requirements into all design and planning activities
* Prepare well documentation, execution programmes and contracting strategies* Collaborate with subsurface, production, facilities and project teams to ensure efficient delivery
* Provide technical input during operations, including on‑call support and change control* Monitor performance, costs and reporting accuracy across drilling, completions and interventions
* Capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement across well delivery* Mentor junior engineers and support a collaborative, high‑performance culture
* Engage with contractors to support safe, high‑quality execution and performance management
* Strong experience in onshore drilling, completions and well intervention engineering and operations* Extensive tight‑coal/CSG background, including completion design, frac planning and contractor oversight
* Ability to integrate core, log, DFIT and microseismic data into stimulation design* Skilled with well design tools such as WELLCAT, WELLPLAN and COMPASS
* Strong commercial awareness with the ability to assess cost, value and trade‑offs* Confident leading discussions on technical risk, value and decision quality
* Excellent planning, organisation and communication skills with consistent delivery* Able to work effectively in diverse, integrated teams and contribute to a high‑performance culture
* Proven capability in coaching, mentoring and adopting a learner‑mindset* Strong interpersonal skills, including collaboration and stakeholder engagement
* Experience with JV interactions, budgeting and cost‑recovery processes* Degree in Petroleum Engineering or related field, with ~10+ years' industry experience
* IWCF certification preferred
