What are you going to do

We are partnering with our client, a respected organization in the Oil and Gas sector, to expand our client's team with experienced Tank Engineers in Chennai. This contract position offers the opportunity to work on complex liquid storage terminals, tank farms, marine jetties and wider EPC infrastructure projects, playing a pivotal role in ensuring safety, quality and timely delivery across all project stages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute storage tank engineering, fabrication, erection, testing and commissioning activities.
  • Review tank GA drawings, shell course layouts, nozzle details, roof drawings, bottom plates and construction documents.
  • Coordinate fabrication and erection of cone roof, dome roof, IFR and EFR tanks.
  • Supervise shell, bottom, annular plate, roof structure and appurtenance installation.
  • Coordinate foundation readiness, settlement monitoring and hydrostatic testing.
  • Ensure welding quality, WPS/PQR compliance, NDT, vacuum box testing, spark testing and material traceability.
  • Coordinate procurement, vendor inspections, QA/QC, planning, construction and HSE teams.
  • Ensure compliance with API 650, API 620, API 653, ASME, AWS, OISD, NFPA, IS and PESO requirements.
  • Monitor contractor performance, project schedule, quality and cost objectives.
  • Support mechanical completion, commissioning, turnover dossiers and project handover.
  • Atmospheric storage tank engineering, fabrication and erection.
  • Hydrotesting, settlement monitoring, welding, NDT and corrosion protection.
  • Knowledge of API 650, API 620, API 653, ASME Section IX, ASTM, AWS, OISD, NFPA and IS Codes.
  • Software: AutoCAD, Intergraph TANK (preferred), SAP, Primavera P6/MS Project, MS Office.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • BE / B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering. Certifications in API 650/API 653, AWS/CSWIP Welding Inspection, NDT or PMP are desirable.
  • Experience: 5-12 years in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, LNG, Tank Terminal or EPC projects with experience in atmospheric storage tank engineering and construction.
  • Experience in greenfield and brownfield tank terminal infrastructure projects.
  • Strong multidisciplinary coordination with hands-on tank construction and commissioning experience.
