Introduction

What are you going to do

  • Reports to Head of Discipline/Engineering Manager (Process & Safety) and works under his overall supervision;
  • Responsible for materials and related corrosion engineering activities for the assigned Project/Enquiry;
  • During Enquiry Phase, reviews material selection/corrosion risks assessment studies & other relevant documents including painting & coating requirements, etc. and verifies the correctness of material selection and corrosion control concepts as specified in the FEED documents;
  • Prepares man-hours estimates for the project scope. Develops the man-hours norms, if required;
  • Calculates and interprets corrosion rates for CO2, CO2-H2S containing hydrocarbon process streams using software such as ECE, PREDICT etc. to confirm the suitability of specified materials in a particular application;
  • Shall ensure that material description on the Process Data Sheets, Mechanical Data Sheets and piping classes on P&IDs is consistent with Materials Selection Diagrams/ Material Selection Report and other relevant project specifications;
  • Prepare scope document for specialized studies/subcontracts related to materials & corrosion engineering works as required and participate in technical bid evaluation;
  • Shall update or develop Material & Corrosion reports such as Material Selection Report (MSR), Corrosion Risk Assessment Study (CRAS), Corrosion Control Manual (CCM), Risk Based Inspection (RBI) study and relevant specifications as per project scope. Also participates in Client’s review and approval process;
  • Develop Material Selection Diagrams (MSDs) and update until as-built stage;
  • Shall review and develop technical specifications as required;
  • Shall support other disciplines on material related issues such as technical deviations and material substitution requests during detailed design;
  • Shall develop (or update existing) Discipline Procedures / Guidelines, as and when required;
  • Participate in inter-discipline design checks for all relevant documents originated from materials & corrosion engineering group and other interfacing engineering disciplines in accordance with established engineering procedures;
  • Shall also review some key documents of other disciplines such as Process, Mechanical, Piping, Pipeline and Instruments in-line with project requirements and shall provide necessary input related to materials and corrosion;
  • Provide metallurgical/corrosion related input to Vendor packages requisitions, assist in technical bid evaluation and provide post-award technical support to Package Engineers as required;
  • Custodian of Engineering Procedures / Technical Feedback Register related to materials & corrosion group;
  • Shall provide guidance and training to the junior engineers, UAE National Engineers, Internship trainees, as applicable;
  • Basic knowledge of metallurgy & corrosion engineering focusing on materials selection / corrosion control and material specification / standards applicable for Oil & Gas FEED / EPC projects;
  • In-depth knowledge of commonly used materials (metallic and non-metallic) in Oil & Gas Industry along with relevant codes & standards, like ASTM, API, ASME, EFC, NACE, NORSOK, etc;
  • Capable of specifying materials for a particular application such as well-head systems, flow lines, pipelines, process piping, separators, desalters, stabilization systems, compressors, pumps, water injection systems, gas sweetening systems, gas dehydration system, fuel gas systems, utility systems (air, water, drains, flares, chemical injection) etc;
  • In-depth working knowledge of corrosion rates prediction and evaluation using industry available software’s such as ECE (Electronic Corrosion Engineer), Predict, NORSOK, etc. and capable of applying life-cycle cost approach for material selection;
  • Basic knowledge of identifying damage mechanisms, and risk assessment/matrix of equipment from safety and reliability standpoint and an aptitude for participating in RBI studies when required by the Client;
  • Good knowledge of materials for use in sour service requirements and in-depth knowledge of NACE standards MR0175/ISO 15156, MR0103, TM 0177, TM 0284 etc;
  • Sound knowledge of Oil & Gas industry Materials & Corrosion problems, failure investigations, risk assessment etc. and understanding of life-cycle cost, reliability, operability and maintainability with a particular focus on Materials & corrosion Engineering;
  • Good knowledge about material properties, heat treatments, manufacturing processes, sourcing limitations and materials cost awareness.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Degree in Chemical, Metallurgical/ Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent from a reputed institute;
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in Materials & Corrosion Engineering in in Oil and Gas industry;
  • Experience of working in Specialized Consultancy organization and/or EPC Contractors team is preferred;
  • Excellent intrapersonal and communication skills in English (written & verbal);
  • Has excellent skill of report writing and possess brilliant communication skill;
  • Good interpersonal relationship;
  • Planning & organizing skills. Influencing skills. Good leadership skills;
  • Good knowledge about corrosion monitoring requirements and corrosion control through chemicals such as corrosion inhibitors, biocide chemicals including their dosing rates;
  • Good knowledge about the dead-leg identification within the piping facilities, risk assessment and appropriate mitigations for the dead-legs and fitness for service of piping & equipment, failure investigations etc;
  • Basic knowledge about pipelines integrity requirements such as pigging frequencies, review of in-line-inspection data;
  • Good knowledge about the external coatings on metallic surfaces, internal lining for the vessels / tanks and external coating requirements for buried piping, sub-sea and underground pipelines including cathodic protection requirements.
