What are you going to do

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Engineer - Piping to join our client's team in Chennai, India on a contract basis. Our client operates within the Oil and Gas sector and is looking for a skilled professional who can take ownership of mechanical and piping engineering activities across complex infrastructure projects, including liquid storage terminals, tank farms, marine jetties, pipelines and wider EPC works. This is an opportunity to play a key role in delivering safe, high-quality, and compliant projects on time, working closely with multidisciplinary stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute mechanical and piping works from engineering through commissioning.
  • Review P&IDs, piping layouts, isometrics, GA drawings, support drawings and vendor documentation.
  • Coordinate installation of piping, valves, pumps, tanks, pressure vessels and utility systems.
  • Support storage tanks, pipeline and marine jetty mechanical works including loading arms and associated equipment.
  • Supervise fabrication, welding, fit-up, erection, alignment, bolting and mechanical completion.
  • Ensure QA/QC through WPS/PQR compliance, material traceability, NDT, hydrotesting, flushing and preservation.
  • Ensure HSE compliance with lifting, hot work, confined space entry and PTW requirements.
  • Coordinate contractors, vendors, procurement, QA/QC, planning and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Monitor progress, prepare engineering reports and support cost and schedule control.
  • Support pre-commissioning, commissioning, punch list closure, as-built documentation and project handover.
  • Knowledge of API, ASME, ASTM, OISD, IS, NFPA and PESO standards.
  • Piping engineering, stress awareness, welding, NDT, hydrotesting and mechanical completion.
  • Storage tanks, pumps, valves, loading arms and pipeline systems.
  • Software: AutoCAD, Plant 3D (preferred), Caesar II awareness, SAP, Primavera/MS Project, MS Office.
  • Safety Leadership, Analytical Thinking, Problem Solving, Communication, Planning & Organizing, Teamwork and Integrity.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • BE / B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering. Certifications in API, ASME, Welding Inspection (CSWIP/AWS), NDT or PMP are desirable.
  • Experience: 12+ years in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, LNG, Refinery, Tank Terminal, Marine Jetty or Pipeline EPC projects with experience in piping systems, static equipment and mechanical construction.
  • Experience in liquid storage terminals, marine jetty, cross-country pipeline and brownfield projects.
  • Strong multidisciplinary coordination with site execution and commissioning exposure.
