Introduction

We are seeking a Senior Atlassian Platform Engineer to take technical ownership of a large enterprise Atlassian environment. This is a hands-on engineering role across Jira and Confluence, with Jira Service Management experience highly regarded. You will lead complex technical work, improve automation and integrations, establish platform standards and drive continual improvement.

What are you going to do

This is a senior, hands-on technical position responsible for the ongoing engineering, administration and improvement of an established Atlassian environment.

You will act as the technical escalation point for complex platform issues while helping define the longer-term direction of the environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide senior-level engineering and administration across Jira, Confluence and Jira Service Management.
  • Take ownership of complex incidents, configuration issues, integrations and technical problem investigations.
  • Design, configure and optimise workflows, permissions, schemes, dashboards and JQL.
  • Develop and enhance platform automation to reduce manual processes and improve scalability.
  • Configure and support Advanced Roadmaps and associated planning capabilities.
  • Work directly with business teams to understand requirements and translate them into scalable Atlassian solutions.
  • Provide technical direction around platform configuration, standards and maintainability.
  • Define and maintain appropriate platform governance and configuration practices.
  • Support integrations between Atlassian products and wider enterprise technology platforms.
  • Lead technical optimisation and continual improvement initiatives.
  • Provide guidance to other team members and delegate routine support activities where appropriate.
  • Contribute to the technical roadmap and future direction of the Atlassian ecosystem.
  • Ensure changes consider security, governance, performance and long-term platform maintainability.

Essential skills and knowledge

We are looking for an experienced Atlassian specialist who can independently take technical ownership of an enterprise platform.

Key experience:

  • 5+ years' hands-on experience across Atlassian administration, consulting or platform engineering.
  • Strong technical capability across Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience managing complex enterprise Atlassian environments with minimal supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of workflows, permissions, schemes, dashboards and JQL.
  • Experience with platform configuration, upgrades, migrations and integrations.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capability.
  • Experience with automation, REST APIs and scripting is highly regarded.
  • Jira Service Management experience is highly desirable.
  • Advanced Roadmaps experience is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of platform security, governance and maintainability.
  • Ability to engage effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders.

This position is best suited to a hands-on Atlassian platform specialist rather than a purely Agile, Scrum, project management or functional administration background.
