Introduction

  • Perform inspection and surveillance activities for painting, coating, corrosion protection
  • Verify surface preparation activities, including abrasive blasting, cleanliness, surface profile measurements, soluble salt testing, and environmental condition monitoring prior to coating application

What are you going to do

  • Conduct inspections of external and internal coating systems for pipelines, piping, structural steel, tanks, vessels, and process equipment throughout all stages of construction and installation
  • Witness and monitor coating application activities, ensuring proper application of primer, intermediate, and finish coats in accordance with approved coating procedures and manufacturer recommendations
  • Perform and witness coating quality control tests, including Wet Film Thickness (WFT), Dry Film Thickness (DFT), adhesion testing, holiday detection testing, hardness testing, and visual inspections to verify coating integrity and compliance
  • Carry out holiday testing of coated surfaces, internal linings, and pipeline coating systems using approved methods and calibrated equipment to ensure coating continuity and defect free application
  • Inspect hot and cold insulation systems for piping, equipment, and vessels, including verification of insulation materials, vapor barriers, cladding installation, weatherproofing, and insulation-coating interfaces
  • Perform inspections of Passive Fire Protection (PFP) and fireproofing systems, including material verification, surface preparation, thickness measurements, reinforcement installation, curing requirements, and final acceptance inspections
  • Witness and evaluate Procedure Qualification Testing (PQT) and coating qualification trials to validate coating system performance and compliance with project and client requirements
  • Review and verify coating procedures, insulation procedures, fireproofing procedures, method statements, inspection and test plans (ITPs), and quality control documents for compliance with contractual and technical specifications
  • Conduct material receiving inspections and verify that coating, insulation, and fireproofing materials are approved, properly stored, within shelf-life limitations, and supported by valid certificates and manufacturer documentation
  • Participate in painting, coating, insulation, and fireproofing subcontractor pre-qualification audits, assessing technical capabilities, personnel qualifications, quality management systems, equipment availability, and past project performance
  • Coordinate inspection activities with contractors, subcontractors, third-party inspectors, and client representatives to ensure timely execution of inspection and testing requirements
  • Review and validate inspection reports, test records, calibration certificates, material certificates, and quality dossiers to ensure completeness and compliance with project requirements
  • Identify, document, and report non-conformities, monitor corrective actions, and verify satisfactory close-out of quality issues
  • Ensure all inspection, testing, and monitoring equipment are calibrated, maintained, and suitable for intended use
  • Maintain accurate inspection records and support implementation of the Project Quality Management System, applicable industry standards, and HSE requirements throughout project execution

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Mechanical/Metallurgical/Materials or equivalent Engineering degree, technical diploma and/or 15+ years' experience in quality Control in multi-disciplined construction environment. Preferably having formal training in QC and membership with internationally recognized chartered or other professional institution
  • BGAS Grade 2 / NACE Level 2 Painting Inspector certification or other equivalent is a must
  • Preferably CSWIP 3.2 / AWS-SCWI Sr. Welding Inspector and ASNT NDT Level II Certification
  • Other equivalent certifications from internationally recognized organizations can be reviewed and maybe accepted
  • Minimum 10 years of experience for Bachelor's degree holders or 15 years for Diploma holders in QA/QC inspection experience in painting, coating, corrosion protection, and preservation activities within Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, or Industrial construction projects.
  • GCC experience is preferred
  • Hands-on experience in inspection of protective coating systems for piping, tanks, structural steel, static equipment, and rotating equipment
  • Familiarity with international coating standards and inspection requirements, including NACE/AMPP, SSPC, ISO, ASTM, and project specifications (i.e. Shell DEPs)
  • Ability to work effectively with contractors, inspectors, and project stakeholders in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment
