What are you going to do

We are partnering with our client, a leading organization in the oil and gas sector, to appoint a QC Mechanical Engineer to join our client's team in Chennai on a contract basis. This is a key role overseeing quality control activities for mechanical, piping and static equipment works across liquid storage terminals, tank farms, marine jetties, pipelines and wider EPC infrastructure projects, ensuring strict adherence to all approved drawings, specifications, codes and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement Project Quality Plans (PQP), ITPs and inspection procedures for mechanical work.
  • Inspect piping fabrication, welding, fit-up, erection, tanks, pumps, valves and static equipment.
  • Verify material traceability, MTCs, WPS/PQR, welder qualifications and inspection records.
  • Coordinate NDT, PMI, hydrotesting, pneumatic testing, flushing and preservation activities.
  • Witness FAT, SAT, dimensional inspections and mechanical completion checks.
  • Coordinate third-party inspections, client inspections and statutory compliance activities.
  • Monitor contractor quality performance and manage NCRs, corrective actions and punch points.
  • Maintain QA documentation, turnover dossiers, test packs and as-built quality records.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement, Construction, HSE and Commissioning teams.
  • Support commissioning, performance testing and final project handover.
  • Knowledge of API, ASME, ASTM, AWS, OISD, IS, NFPA and PESO standards.
  • Welding inspection, NDT, pressure testing, material traceability and documentation control.
  • Software: MS Office, AutoCAD, SAP (preferred), Primavera/MS Project (awareness).

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • BE / B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering. Diploma holders with relevant QA/QC experience may also be considered. CSWIP/AWS, ASNT Level II, BGAS or NACE certifications are desirable.
  • Experience: 5-10 years of QA/QC experience in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, LNG, Refinery, Tank Terminal, Marine Jetty or EPC projects involving piping, tanks and mechanical equipment.
  • Experience in storage tanks, piping, marine jetty and terminal mechanical systems.
  • Strong inspection, contractor quality management and commissioning support capability.
