Introduction

  • Provide quality assurance of drill pipe, BHA and specialty tools inspection for all Company business units. The tools and equipment may include, but are not limited to, drill pipe, BHA equipment, specialty drilling tools (mud motors, MWD/LWD, RSS), stabilizers, fishing tools, HWDP, API rotary connections, premium connections, casing/tubing, handling equipment, liner hangers, packers, frac sleeves, jars, power units, and cementing tools.
  • Provide failure analysis to determine the cause of failures and determine the material properties of the components.
  • Follow and adhere strictly to the Company approved quality assurance inspection plans and not deviate, modify, add to or delete any of the requirements listed in these plans or directives.

What are you going to do

  • Follow and adhere to the most recently published industry standards and vendor/manufacturer/shop operating procedures
  • Review quality documentation, procedures and specifications to ensure that they are compliant to the required levels.
  • Ensure that third party equipment and personnel supplied for well drilling and completion activities are fit for purpose.
  • Review, verify and witness ITP/QCP for equipment used on the well are executed correctly and all required NDT, visual, dimensional inspections, gauging, applicable equipment function and pressure tests are performed correctly.
  • Review and ensure that the drill string/OCTG items used on the well are compliant with all relevant DS1, API and Company outlined standards and requirements.
  • Witness and perform surveillance of inspection activities on drill string equipment to ensure compliant with all relevant standards and all equipment are being used and calibrated correctly, and all personnel are qualified and competent.
  • Witness and monitor assembly/disassembly of BHA, testing, and completion subassemblies.
  • Provide final reports denoting the equipment’s compliance or noncompliance with Company’s specifications and requirements.
  • Witness and monitor the inspections, test and build of liner hanger systems to verify correct arrangement, pressure testing and shear pinning of the tools to be in accordance with ITP, QCP, OEM specifications.
  • Perform rig audits, as requested by Company, to witness drill pipe handling and connection practices and inspect rig floor equipment for certifications, calibrations, and general condition.
  • Visit machine shop facilities to verify and ensure any manufacturing or repairs are as per the required specifications, equipment are in proper use and calibration, and all inspection, testing and gauging are performed by competent personnel.
  • Provide job reports and daily time-logs recording work performed and inspections completed. Reports shall also contain any non-compliances, job discrepancies and agreed remedial plans.
  • Directly contact the designated Company represtiative(s) regarding any job discrepancies or NCR issues to ensure they are acted upon quickly and swiftly.
  • Contractor must perform the Work under this agreement in compliance with a written Quality Management System (QMS) tailored after a recognized Quality Standard such as API Q-2 or ISO 9001 or equivalent. Contractor shall be able to demonstrate the application and evidence of the QMS which will ensure the mitigation of risk and assure the provision of consistent and dependable service at all work sites
  • The Contractor shall maintain and provide to the Company reports

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or technical discipline.
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience with operator drilling/completions, inspection, or drilling service company related to drill string/completion tools or BHA components.
  • Minimum 10 years experience related to drill string and completion tool design, use, inspection, and integrity.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in conducting root cause analysis.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in implementation and application of quality systems and quality auditing.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of drilling/completion operations.
  • Expert knowledge in areas of manufacture, design, inspection, and use of: drill pipe, BHA components, liner hanger systems, and completion tools.
  • Knowledge of safety principles, implementation techniques and program maintenance skills.
  • Skilled computer user, proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with other departments, management, field, and contract personnel.
  • Must read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Must have completed formal training in drill pipe, completions tool and BHA component design, manufacture, inspection, and use delivered by an industry recognized authority.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts.
  • Proficiency in API, ASNT, ASME, NACE and DS-1 Standards
