What are you going to do

The Lead Mechanical Engineer will take ownership of the engineering and technical delivery of rotating and packaged equipment throughout the project lifecycle. The role will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure equipment is designed and delivered in line with project requirements, applicable standards, and quality expectations.

The position will also contribute to team development by providing technical direction and mentoring to less experienced engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical engineering activities associated with rotating equipment such as pumps and compressors, as well as packaged systems.
  • Develop and review key engineering deliverables, including equipment specifications, datasheets, technical requisitions, and enquiry documentation.
  • Coordinate mechanical interfaces with process, piping, electrical, instrumentation, civil, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Provide technical support throughout the procurement process, including review of supplier proposals, technical bid evaluations, and resolution of vendor queries.
  • Evaluate and approve vendor drawings, calculations, data, and other technical documentation against project specifications and applicable standards.
  • Ensure engineering activities comply with relevant client requirements and international standards, including API, ASME, ISO, and NFPA.
  • Support equipment inspections, site surveys, factory acceptance testing, installation, commissioning, and start-up activities.
  • Provide technical assistance during site and commissioning activities, including investigation and resolution of equipment-related issues.
  • Manage technical interfaces between project stakeholders, engineering disciplines, clients, contractors, and equipment suppliers.
  • Identify and resolve engineering challenges, ensuring timely and practical technical solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring to junior and less experienced engineers.
  • Assist with tender and proposal activities, including preparation of material take-offs, equipment-related inputs, and preliminary cost estimates.
  • Undertake international travel and site-based assignments when required by project needs.

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Approximately 8–10 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, ideally within oil & gas, petrochemical, offshore, or related industrial projects.

Strong specialist knowledge of rotating and packaged equipment, with demonstrated experience in equipment selection, sizing, specification, and technical evaluation.

Previous experience in a Lead Mechanical Engineer, Senior Mechanical Engineer, or similar technical leadership capacity.

Proven track record of working across the full EPC project lifecycle, covering engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and start-up.

Strong understanding of international engineering codes and standards, particularly API, ASME, ISO, and NFPA.

Experience managing equipment suppliers and reviewing vendor technical documentation.

Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional coordination capabilities.

Excellent technical problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.

Willingness to travel internationally and undertake site assignments as required.
