Introduction

We are seeking a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to support a semiconductor facility project.

This individual will plan, coordinate, and monitor mechanical testing and commissioning activities performed by subcontractors. The engineer will verify that systems are properly installed, thoroughly checked, functionally tested, and documented in accordance with contract requirements, approved procedures, project specifications, and applicable safety standards.

Contract Duration: Initial 12-month contract with strong possibility of extension

Start Date: ASAP

Schedule: Typically 5/40-5/50; may increase to 5/60 depending on project requirements

Primary Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and monitor subcontractor testing and commissioning activities.
  • Perform mechanical system walkdowns and readiness inspections.
  • Verify installation completeness against drawings, specifications, checklists, and commissioning requirements.
  • Confirm that mechanical systems and equipment are ready for checkout, startup, and functional testing.
  • Witness and monitor equipment startup, performance testing, and functional verification.
  • Ensure detailed equipment checkouts and functionality checks are completed and properly documented.
  • Identify, document, track, and help resolve deficiencies, incomplete work, and punch-list items.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities with subcontractors, vendors, construction teams, engineering, quality, operations, and project management.
  • Support equipment vendor representatives during startup, troubleshooting, and performance validation.
  • Review commissioning documentation, test records, turnover packages, and system completion records for accuracy and completeness.
  • Support system turnover, client acceptance testing, and final handover.
  • Verify that commissioning work complies with approved startup procedures, project requirements, and applicable safety standards.
  • Ensure adherence to lockout/tagout procedures and other energy-isolation requirements.
  • Monitor equipment performance and assist with troubleshooting mechanical system issues.
  • Communicate system status, outstanding deficiencies, testing progress, and schedule risks to project stakeholders.

Essential skills and knowledge 

Qualifications

  • Mechanical engineering, commissioning, startup, construction, or field engineering experience involving complex mechanical systems.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical system walkdowns, installation verification, startup, functional testing, and turnover.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, pumps, compressors, cooling systems, mechanical utilities, process piping, and packaged equipment.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, equipment specifications, test procedures, and vendor documentation.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors, equipment vendors, construction teams, and multidisciplinary project stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of commissioning documentation, deficiency tracking, punch-list management, and turnover packages.
  • Strong understanding of construction and commissioning safety practices, including LOTO and energy isolation.
  • Ability to work an onsite schedule that may increase to 50-60 hours per week based on project requirements.
  • Strong written communication, documentation, coordination, and problem-solving skills.

What we offer

Employment Details

  • Twelve-month contract with a strong possibility of extension.
  • Nonexempt position with overtime paid at 1.5 times the regular rate for hours worked over 40.
  • Nine paid holidays.
  • Local candidates are preferred.
  • Per diem may be available for qualifying nonlocal candidates, subject to approval.
