Introduction

Our client is progressing a major greenfield resources and processing development in Australia, producing specialist materials for energy, technology and advanced manufacturing markets.

This is the lead finance role embedded within the Projects team, supported by a small Owner's team and delivered under an EPCM model. You'll report to the Chief Projects Officer, with a functional line to the CFO. You'll work alongside project leaders, the Project Controls Manager, Senior Financial Accountant and Head of Commercial, while partnering closely with the corporate Finance team.

Governance foundations are in place, but the project's finance systems and processes are at an early stage of maturity. You'll assess the current arrangements, refine what is fit for purpose and develop the owner-side systems, controls and reporting needed to manage financial performance through construction.

The role is Perth-based, working primarily from the Owner's office and collaborating with the EPCM contractor and wider delivery team. Site travel will be occasional and ad hoc.

What are you going to do

  • Establish and improve the Owner's project finance systems, processes and controls.
  • Lead project budgeting, forecasting and management reporting, giving delivery leaders clear insight into costs, commitments, cash flow and emerging risks.
  • Work with Project Controls and Commercial to review EPCM cost reports, forecasts, commitments, payment applications and claims.
  • Provide owner-side payment assurance, checking supporting evidence and alignment with scope, progress, quality and contractual requirements.
  • Coordinate project inputs to lender and equity models, cash-flow forecasts, drawdowns and lender reporting, in partnership with the corporate Finance team.
  • Support compliance with complex funding obligations, lender deliverables and environmental, social and governance requirements.
  • Deliver commercial analysis and scenario modelling to inform project and business decisions.
  • Partner with the CFO and corporate Finance team on group reporting, governance and compliance.
  • Support commissioning and handover, including capitalisation and the development of operating cost structures.

Essential skills and knowledge

  • A relevant degree and considerable finance experience in major processing, resources or industrial environments.
  • Experience establishing or improving project finance systems, controls and reporting in a complex organisation.
  • Strong project accounting, cost control, forecasting, payment assurance and management reporting capability.
  • The ability to combine hands-on accounting and financial control with funding, financial modelling and lender support.
  • Owner-side project experience and the confidence to test EPCM cost forecasts, claims and payment evidence constructively.
  • The judgement to work effectively in a lean team, take ownership and focus on the areas that need attention.
  • Commercial insight and the ability to turn financial information into clear, practical advice.
  • A collaborative approach and the confidence to raise financial issues directly and constructively.

Experience on a major greenfield development through construction, commissioning and operational readiness will be highly regarded. ASX-listed experience and a background in processing, chemical, lithium, gas or related industries would also be valuable.

What we offer

  • Shape a finance framework that is still being built
  • Work closely with project and executive decision-makers
  • Gain exposure to EPCM delivery and international funding
  • Stay involved from construction through commissioning
  • 30% annual bonus
  • Perth-based, with occasional site travel
