Introduction

We are partnering with a leading global oil & gas business to recruit an experienced Estimator to join their Capital Projects team in Perth.

This is an opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of major capital projects, supporting scopes of varying size and maturity and helping deliver consistent, high-quality cost estimates, assurance processes and project controls outcomes.

What are you going to do

As Estimator, you will provide specialist cost estimating support across the capital projects portfolio, working closely with project teams, contractors and key internal stakeholders.

You will be responsible for developing and assuring project cost estimates throughout the project lifecycle, supporting cost and schedule risk assessments and ensuring estimating activities are aligned with established project management and cost engineering standards.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Develop cost estimates across all project phases and classes of estimate.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive Basis of Estimate (BoE) documentation.
  • Develop estimate plans for various phases of capital projects.
  • Coordinate and review contractor and owner cost estimates.
  • Critically review contractor estimates, productivity assumptions, resource requirements and unit rates.
  • Support Integrated Cost and Schedule Assurance (ICSA) reviews and assurance activities.
  • Participate in cost and schedule risk assessments, including probabilistic risk analysis and contingency setting.
  • Develop and maintain project cost risk models.
  • Undertake contract cost evaluations, cost change analysis and cost trending.
  • Manage estimate change logs and incorporate project risks, vulnerabilities and opportunities.
  • Support the development of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS).
  • Ensure estimates remain aligned with project schedules, resource plans and funding requirements.
  • Support project Management of Change (MOC) processes.
  • Undertake project cost benchmarking and incorporate lessons learned from previous projects.
  • Support Business Planning, annual budgeting cycles, monthly expenditure reporting and funding requests.
  • Contribute to Joint Venture Work Program and Budget activities where required.
  • Maintain estimating databases including cost data, unit rates, productivity factors and project metrics.
  • Produce high-quality estimating, budgeting and project funding documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to continuously improve estimating processes, systems, playbooks and digital analytical tools.
  • Utilise emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, to support continuous improvement within cost engineering.
  • Work independently with project interfaces and stakeholders to identify and resolve cost-related issues.

Essential skills and knowledge 

We are looking for an experienced cost estimating professional with a strong background supporting major capital projects within the oil & gas industry.

You will ideally bring:

  • Comprehensive experience within the onshore and offshore oil & gas sector.
  • Experience supporting upstream, subsea, wells and/or downstream facilities.
  • Strong technical capability across cost estimating, cost management and cost analysis.
  • Experience with probabilistic cost and schedule risk analysis and contingency development.
  • Experience supporting major capital projects and an understanding of established project development and project controls processes.
  • Previous exposure to large-scale oil & gas projects valued in the USD $1bn-$10bn range will be highly regarded.
  • Strong understanding of the relationship between estimating, planning, scheduling, budgeting and cost control.
  • Experience reviewing and challenging contractor estimates and assumptions.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and collaboration skills.
  • The ability to operate effectively within a complex matrix organisation.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach and demonstrated ability to deliver outcomes within major capital project environments.
  • A continuous improvement mindset and willingness to challenge established ways of working.
